So I'm traveling on the freeway this morning, roughly 100 meters from my exit. All of a sudden, I see a blue 05-06 sti in the rearview mirror coming up fast, and darts from 3 lanes away and into the exit, cutting off 3 cars in the process. Douchebaggery driving at its best So I keep driving along at normal speed, seeing the sti driver weaving in and out of stoplight traffic. Funny thing is, 4 lights later, without even driving my S hard, I coincidentally line up with him at the light. Now, I'm having that "don't gun it unless he guns it first" mentality. No looking over, no revving. Suddenly, the light turns green. Out of pure instinct, I get out of first slightly harder than normal, and keep it around 5k in first gear. As luck would have it, the sti driver punches it (at this point, we're going roughly 20-25mph). As soon as he guns it, I follow suite. We stay with each other until roughly 50mph, then I notice something funny: I began to pull on him, putting roughly half a car - 1 car length on him in the process. At this point I'm going roughly 80mph before I start to slow down to make a left turn (Also note, before I get bashed, this was at an expressway, so longer stretches of road between stoplights). He makes the the right at the stoplight, parting ways.

My question to you, fellow s2ki bruddahs, is, was this supposed to happen? I was under the impression that an sti would beat a s2k in a straight line, especially an s2k that's almost stock. Then again, I do put into consideration drivetrain loss, weight, and the ever so important "driver" mod can play a factor. The only engine mods I have is a k&n air filter in the stock air box gutted, and a replica spoon snorkel. Also, I have an ap2 exhaust on my ap1 if that makes a difference (due to me switching to an ap2 rear; gotta match!) As far as the sti, the only mod I could see was an aftermarket exhaust. Regardless, I'm very pleased to put a douchebag in his place.

 

From what I've always read, sti's and s2ks are very evenly matched and low mph the Sti is usually ahead by little while top end s2k pulls

 

Your results are surprising to me, then. Exhausts are usually quickly followed by a tune.

 

I raced an early year STi from a dig to about 75ish and barely beat it. My only "performance" mods are 4.57s and some lighter wheels. Neither of us launched.

Good kill sir! I think stock/stock its a drivers race with the edge towards STi!

 

I've beaten 2 STIs before. Never tuned but both had exhaust systems. My results on both were like 2-3 cars ahead by 110 mph.

 

Sti's are a toss up. If they are done right, you'll have a problem. If theyre half ass modded or stock you'll have fun.

I have also beaten 2 STI's (1 stock and 1 w/ exhaust) in my 04 AP2 w/ 70mm single exhaust, k/n filter/ gutted box and gutted interior w/ carbon fiber hardtop.
I also got smoked by one but he was modded w/ new turbo so lawlz.
