Good kill. Not because it was an S, just 'cause he had no clue and talked trash. If you run 12.5's that's enough for respect from just about ANY unmodded street car.

And anyone who says the S not being a drag car... there are no street cars that are 'drag cars' off the dealer's lot. Just some that are faster and MAYBE more durable against repeated launches and/or sticky tires. Reminds me of a George Carlin joke -- so is every car faster than yours a drag car, and every slower car is a POS ?

If you don't 'get' the appeal of drag racing that's understandable. I don't get NASCAR roundy-round racing but millions of people think its just super. Just don't think a drag race is just about mashing the pedal. There's car preparation, driver skill, and mental flow similar to all other forms of racing.

I saw the EVO at the Miami International Auto Show, I checked out the STi and all the other four-door, rocket launchers but man, I don't care how quick they are, I just can't get past the looks. It's just something that for me, would fall out of my visual grace within months of ownership. To this day, two years into S2000 ownage, I will turn and look at the car while walking into a gas station or Circle K and just love what I see. I'll come out of the store and 3-4 people will be around the car. I don't think I could say that for an EVO or SRT-4, etc. Fast? Sure as hell are but they get lost in the crowd when they're not moving.
Congrats on the times though, that is serious acceleration anywhere, USA.

My friend's Hemi powered Dart is ideal for drag races. Imagine a tank like that deforming due to the stress from all the 625HP, 800+TQ. I got to watch him race a modded blue STI (nobody wanted to line up with my friend except that Subaru). The STI took off ahead 1 second before the torque tidal wave of American muscle overpowered it, swallowing it up and spit it out the back near the burnout box. It's fun watching import drags, but it's nothing like watching classic domestics. (BTW, the end result of the run was 10.89 with traction problems, 12.7 for the STI)

It's funny how some AWD owners are starting to realize that doing clutch dumps to maximize power thru all 4 wheels take a huge toll on the drivetrain parts. Just like an S2000 diff, doing those kinds of launches in a WRX, STI, Evo, etc. is eventually going to result in some failure at some point in the driveline.

Good kill, but I have to agree w/Russ here. If you're looking for pure, easily modded import speed, the Evo is the shizzle. But if you're looking for the "total import package" (i.e. power + looks + rarity), nothing comes close to the S.

TypeR1159.

Have you tried slipping your clutch off the line as you feed in throttle? Just dumping the clutch is not nearly as effective as slipping on a blip to allow the turbo to build boost off the line (not to mention kinder to your powertrain.

At least for me, taking the revs that high and "dumping" the clutch will just have the car jerk forward and bog. If i time a good throttle feed/clutch slip all 4 tires spin and off i go.

Cheers

Let the flames start!!

I don't think you can take a SC S2000 from 70 to 150.

I'm saying this according to my own experience on freeway with a heavily modded WRX, and mildly modded STI. I left them in the dust.

BTW I had a WRX when it first came out. I like these cars and I wish I had the money to add a EVO or STI to my garage. I tried to convince my gf and she ended up with a 350Z Roadster.
Matt.
