6k Launch...
I usually don't abuse my low-end, but I did a 6-6.2k launch last night just to see how well my stook took off...
I got about 1second of wheel spin, and she went...RPM's dropped to like 3.8k. It didn't seem like quite enough. I was wondering if this was what most people experience, or if I should up the launch RPM to around 7k? Mind you, this is Texas, roads are very hot, tires are sticky.

If you got one second of spin with no forward motion and then a bog, it means that you lifted off the throttle. You should stay on it and even give more as the spin goes away...

Aaron, you need around 7 - 7.5k showing when you drop the clutch. At those revs you should be seeing around 5.5k when the tyres stop spinning - this will ensure you don't bog.
I did a 6900/7000 rpm drop clutch launch last night and it spun the tires (12,000 mile S02s) and started fishtailing alittle. It was fun, better than those 5000rpm bog launches.
I remember one time I launched against a Audi TT. It was the almost perfect launch. No wheel spin, fishtailing, or bogging. I think I dropped it at7000rpm or something like that. I took off like a rocket. HondaGuy witnessed it.

You have to learn to feather the throttle when launching. You can't just hold it at a steady position.
Although it sounds strange, you actually have to stare at your tachometer until the wheels hook up. When I was launching my car I would watch the tach lights move above and below 7,000 RPMs, while I feathered, all the way through first gear before it would hook up right before time to shift to 2nd. If I looked up at the road, I always accidently let up on the throttle - then BOG.
With a stock S you'll want to spin until the car is moving quick enough that when the wheels grab you're in Vtech. Feathering the throttle if you need to to to keep it from grabbing too soon. It's not real easy, but it can be done with practice.

The road surface makes a huge difference. I don't do around doing drop-launches but I use them at most Auto-X starts.
The grippy concrete at El Toro required 7.5K or higher to get a decent launch and it still bogged easily. I just ran my first event in the stook at Hollywood Park and the first lanuch spun for three or four seconds (too much) from the smoother surface. I ended up launching at 5K with decent spin and no problems.

after you launch perfectly, how do you shift gears? is there a faster way to change gears? do you guys know that you can power shift in s2000? without stepping on the clutch, you can change geats but it has to rev higher than normal shifting. its pretty cool.
