97 cobra a problem?
Friend of mine has a 96 or 97 mystic cobra, has 117,000 miles, k & n filter, and flowmasters, would a stock s be easily able to take him? Soon I will find out, just seeing if anyone knew prehand thanks!
Those cars are good for low 14's, high 13's so I suggest you go from a roll to have an easier time. If he can launch and shift his car properly then you gotta be on your A game to keep up. Should be a close race though. Make sure he doesnt have gears in that thing and a full exhaust of all things though, good luck
Even with 117,000 miles still 14's low 13's? def. dosent have full exhaust and def. dosent have gears. He said stock right off the showroom in 97 the 0-60 was 5.9 so 117,000 miles later I would think it has seriously slowed. I could be wrong, we will find out soon enough.
I had a 97 Cobra... and I think that a stock S2000 would be a decent race.. but there's only one way to find out..
oh, at the track best I did was 14.4@99.9 with a 2.34 60 ft.. (100% stock)
absolute best I've read that a stock 96-98 Cobra did was 13.06@103 for a 97.. (guy did mods to it and it ran only mid 13's after that)....

- 103 is very possible. I ran 101.9 mph stock and I left the line form an idle- a huge disadvantage for a heavy Cobra with bad gearing (327's stock) and not enough torque to get it up and moving.
As far as the race- if you race him form a roll and he is sitting in his powerband in 2nd or 3rd he will win. If you are in your powerband you will win. If you manage to find a speed where you both are in your powerband then the better driver will win.
From what I remember when I had my stock gearing DO NOT race him from a 45-55 mph roll. If you could get him at like 30 mph he be too high in 1st and spin the tires and too low in the rpms in 2nd to take you.
From a stop he should take you if he can launch his car. If he can't launch it will you will destroy him becasue he will blow his tires away.
P.S. From looking at many many stock dyno's for 96-97's over the years I have noticed that Mystics seem to dyno higher then other 96 Cobras and run higher 1/4 mph. I have no idea why that would be, maybe the guys who built the engines for the mysitcs were in a better mood that day.
EDIT: His Cobra is a 96, not a 97. No Mystics were made in 97, that year the "special" color was Pacific Green, my color.

yes 117,000 miles isnt nothing, but if he has been taking care of it as he should(i.e. tune-up, oil changed every 3k, bla bla) then it would still be a strong running car. As long as the car is running as it should then i think it will be a good race as i said before.

That's why you should learn how to drive your car!
