interesting i'd think you would shit all over the stock STi considering other threads on here regarding stock s2k vs. sti's...

maybe your mods messed up your afr so much they're hurting rather than helping the performance of your car. have your afr/tune checked up asap!!

and yea a passenger in an s2k hurts it big time...it's kinda like racing someone uphill in the s2000, having no torque hurts you in those scenarios.

try again after your tune is checked up and ditch the passenger and i think you will prevail. true the 4.77 gear may hurt your top end a bit but from a 2nd or 3rd gear punch you should put enough distance for the STi to play some serious catch up IMHO

gears don't hurt "top end", they lower your top speed.

Maybe STi wasn't stock? I'm sure s2kguy will chime in, lol....

It's possible your combo of mods is hurting you, I think if you were stock with 4.77s you would've won, if you can drive.

This was my first thought as well, as this reads like a stock vs stock race.

I have ran with my other friends k20 ek. He had intake header and exhaust with k pro but not tune. We went from 2nd gear pull to all the way to 6th. By end of 5th I was slowly passing him. My set up that time was with 63mm with test pipe.

I have search that the mugen ecu requires some cooling mod, which I don't have. I am not sure if that makes any difference, but I will try a 2nd gear pull with my friend one more time. And this time for sure no passenger. lol

your mods are incorrect.

first off, you have a mid-range header bolted up to a top end exhaust. those two are canceling each other out. the AEM is simply killing your low and mid range power, and making a few up top, but with the wrong header in there, once again the gain is nil. and the mugen ecu is the topper. its made for MID range, its tuned taht way. my guess your slower than a stock s2k. your 4.77's are too big of a gear, and unless you shift like a SMG tranny the supposed advantage they give isnt there. if anything with an average driver your slower with 4.77's.

so. put your stock header in, leave the 70mm and put your stock ecu in. see the mugen ECU and the berk and get a Js/amuse/hytech header. then sell the 4.77's for stock 4.10's and get emanage and tune your car.

theres a reason i made 227whp with 3 mods, i researched by trail and error for 2yrs.

not to come down on you, but this kind of modding, just throwing together random parts that sound good, its what gives modded s2ks a bad name.

my car was an 02.

i did:

gutted airbox with KN drop in
custom 70mm headerback exhaust
vafc2 tuned

some say the dyno was generious(it was a mustang dyno btw), some say i had a gifted engine. the 105mph traps didnt lie though. with that combo the car flat out MOVED.

this was the fabled 227/147 pull....
