I'm sorry, this comment just made me . A lethal N/A S2K, who woulda' thunk-it?

J`s s2000 or any of the tuned JDM ones.
they weigh close to or some of them LESS than 2000 lbs.

even if it was a bone stock motor.. thats pretty quick.

"loses effectiveness" ok, but it's still able to accelerate faster than a stock geared s2000 at any speed it can attain.

If gears are a "torque multiplier" why would it only apply to lower RPM ranges/lower gears?
I guess without getting to involved in this gear topic I will offer you some explanation which I hope will get you to think about it a little differently, wile also answering your question specifically.

Gear multiplication is a a neat thing, it allows more force to be applied to the wheel without the addition of power from the engine. But there is always a flip side, the flip side is that the capable forward momentum or speed is reduced. Think of it as the tq and hp have been condensed into a smaller package, it works great in a lower rpm for our car for a good reasons, because it suffers from low end trq, it does not however suffer from high rpm trq. So condensing the power for the lower rpms benefits its acceleration from a dig or from a given gear up until it reaches it power range, which is about 6k rpm on our car. It will feel snappy in any gear at first but fades as acceleration increases through the power band compared to a longer gear, which provides more time in the heart of the power curve, which is where forward momentum comes from. The trick is to have the right gearing for the engines power curve and output, if its to tall of a gear like say a 3.73, the power band will be stretched to thin and acceleration will suffer also. There is actually a scientific measure of predicting what gear would accelerate the best given all the equations of the car such as trans gearing, engine trq, hp and at what rpms ect. Pro drag racers know this stuff because they have to to get every ounce of performance.

Once that 4.77 gearing hits the engines power band where it makes its peak power (6k) that same gearing reduces the power bands effectiveness of forward propulsion, but it would clime a tree better. Make sense? Ideally would be to have an automatic transmission that would give you say a gear ratio of 4.77 up to 6k rpm and then automatically switch over to say a 4.10 in vtec. I hope this gives you something to think about and makes some clarifications for you without to much further explanation, gearing can be a big topic, but if you do have more questions I will set you strait.

Oh god guys, you know what I was talking about, and it wasn't a 1-in-a-million tuner knock-off.
