Default ap1 vs 2004 sti

so i've been really curious as to figure out how my 2000 s2000 would fare against an sti. i read so many different outcomes on here. So i was stoked when my friend finally agreed to race me. he has a 2004 subaru sti. the mods were

2000 honda s2000
comptech intake
invidia 70mm test pipe
invidia v2 dual
act heavy duty clutch w/comptech lightened flywheel

2004 sti
intake
exhaust

so we did all from a roll, or course

first race was from 35, in second gear. from the punch we were dead even, no pulling at all. we shut down at around 100 because the road was starting to curbe.

second race, was again from 35 in second. and just like the first run.. it was completely even until we shut down at 100.

the third race, we started at 35 in second, and he jumped the honk.. and took off. i didnt even try.

well.. we ended up calling it a draw, with him shocked. he thought his sti would kill me. neways..

a few days later he got tuned. turned up the boost.. and now hes running 285whp and 300ft/lbs of torque on 18lbs. yeah... im not even gonna ask for a rematch. almost 40whp for 200 dollars.. what a thug.

thanks to the gearing of your s2000 thats why you hang with the sti on rolling start. From a dig for sure you lose.

Get some gears and i bet you will destroy his tuned sti and you will be a bigger thug ahha

intake on the sti? was he tuned too? intake is an odd upgrade, normally people do downpipe first, then exhaust.

Yeah tune was after we raced.. But he didn't get a downpipe because he said it cost more to buy and Install. He only had enough for the intake and exhaust.

Yeah i raced an 07 sti on the interstate the other day with accessport, downpipe and exhaust.

I tried finding a dyno of similar mods and this is what i found:

http://www.dragtimes.com/2007-Subaru-Impre...aphs-14337.html

Wasn't even a close race, he put a bus on me by 110.

Intakes cost about as much as a DP, if not more. Dude is whack. DP is also super easy to install.

Not his intake.. Shop said they'd give him one for next to nothing if he got his exhaust and tune done.. I believe he said he paid $50. It's an off brand obviously.. . They wanted almost 400 for the invidia down, installed. He doesn't even change his own oil.. There's no way he would do his downpipe.
And now he's saving up for his next upgrades.. Which he said will be a downpipe and if he can get enough saved, a front mount. So he'll have a downpipe eventually.. Just didn't have enough at the time. I think 285whp isn't bad for an exhaust/ intake.

I am sorry to say but your friend is probably confused or misinformed because with just a cat-back combined with an intake (depending on design probably doing more harm than good) and an off the shelf map (assuming its Cobb so probably Stage 1) or even "tuned," there is no way he'll hit 285whp even on a Dynojet. At the max he's probably only getting 5whp realistically with those mods over stock. Unless of course he's using corn juice (Ethanol)

As a matter of fact he could've "saved" a lot more and achieved more bang for the buck with simply a Stage 2 off the shelf map together with a down-pipe and would be closer to that 280whp figure - on a Mustang Dyno. One can buy a second hand downpipe in perfectly working condition for even $250 and have it installed by anyone - completely plug and play.

Finally, here's a good database for comparisons and dyno references (Cobb and Mustang Dyno) with mods listed: http://plano.cobbtuning.com/dyno/index.php

my roommates 04 sti is running the non-cat SPT exhaust, not sure which turbo inlet, and a dp. Self tuned, running @ 21 lbs floating a little over 400 to the crank. I wish I could gain that kinda of power by doing nothing -_-
