Default AP1 vs AP2

I was on the way home from walmart last night with my gf when I saw a fellow sebring silver s2k ap2. We followed each other through traffic a little and I tried a few times to talk to him but the two younger guys inside just played dumb and seemed like all they cared about was racing despite heavy traffic. After a few lights he just takes off and wildly weaves through a number of cars. I just shake my head and continue on. About a mile later I see he got stopped at a red light and what do you know the spot next to him is open...

I don't usually race as cops here are jerks for the most part but this guy got to me and I wanted to see how I'd do against a stock ap2. I try one last time to get his attention just to say hey but he refuses so I wait for the light. Light turns green and he launched and I just slipped my clutch around 4k as I'd like to keep my rear end in one piece for awhile. At the end of first my front was at his rear wheels. Shifted into 2nd and started to pull steadily on him. Shifted to third and I pulled even. I was nearing the end of 3rd gear and had about a half car on him so I let off and slowed down. He continued at WOT for a little while - probably close to 100 I would think - then slowed down and took the first turn available as fast as possible. Guess he was pissed? Oh well I was happy to beat an ap2. Mods are just a berk 63mm TP, invidia 70mm dual n1 exhaust, driver mod, and my gf cheering me on.

He should have just said hey.

nice kill, but heres a tip, your trashing your diff slipping the clutch at 4k, just dump that bitch at 6k depending on traction and feather with the gas.

He's 100% right. Launching below VTEC (and wheel spin) is what kills the diff. Pretty funny that you just potentially damaged your diff while trying to accomplish the complete opposite. Whoops!

Slipping the clutch is more gentle on the rear end but very bad for the clutch..

Yeah, as usual you don't know what you're talking about.

As JDMPearl said, he's taking the shock away from the diff by slipping the clutch. I'll take a little clutch wear over a broken diff.

^Thanks... Dumping at 6k is definitely worse for just about everything on the car. And traction would be terrible. I don't have a lot of tread left and the intersection was bumpy at first. Hence another reason to slip the clutch. Plus I want to replace/upgrade clutch before summer anyway.

I dump my clutch at 400/4500.. Now

Before my mods I used to launch at 5000/5500 (depending) dumping the clutch with no problems.. As long as the wheels spin you aren't really hurting anything (in theory).. It's better to dump the clutch and spin the wheels then it is to dead hook.. (in the s2000)
