Somebody correct me if I am wrong but I believe that all of those SRT6 Crossfires are automatic/tiptronic.

I test drove a SRT-6 just before I got my car. It was an 06 with only 12k miles on it. Of the cars I test drove (05 S2k, 06350Z, 05 Mustang GT, 05 RX-8) it was easily the fastest and it was the only automatic (that's the only way it comes. The SRT-6 has a hand-built Mercedes AMG 3.2L SC V6. The car is the coupe version of the previous Mercedes SLK. Lots of people may think these cars are ugly but they are fast, handle and break very well. They are relatively light to. The power/weight ratio is very close to a vette. The best stock time I've seen on these is 4.9 0-60 an 110MPH in the 1/4, the car I test drove felt even faster... You can find 05s and 06s with less the 20k miles for around $24k. That is a hard deal to beat for an almost new AMG.

I spent some time of forums of each of the cars I was interested in (the same list as above). I decided against the SRT-6 due to concerns over a problematic secondary coolant pump (for the SC) that would cause the SC not to engage. I also noticed a few people reporting issues with the SC electric clutch failing and didn't like the reports that you had to replace the entire SC. I owned a Mercedes before my S2000 and know first hand how bad their service sucks. I will admit though, of the cars I test drove, it was the next best. Don't mistake the normal Crossfire for the SRT-6. The only thing that old dude in the Crossfire needs to do to embarrass you is floor it, unless you are modded you will get left behind. And don't expect to lose him in the corners either.

Oh, don't listen to that SRT-4 crap. A guy at work has one and we have run a few times, I walked away at every speed (we never went over 110MPH though). His only mod is a drop in filter (that is all I have along with CDV mod). I have had a few SRT-4 encounters on the street and have yet to be beat by one. They are fast cars and can be made even faster but stock to stock, they are not as fast as the S2000 AP2 and surly not faster then the SRT-6.

Anyway on the other cars, in order of decision, the mustang was 2nd fastest in a straight line and it didn't feel too bad handling and breaking wise but I couldn't get over the ugly inside, the 5 speed manual sucks too. The 350Z had torque, handling and breaking felt great (it had the Brembos). I just saw too many 350Zs on the road and I have seen both Mustangs and S2000s stomp these cars on the road all too often (stock to stock*). The RX-7 didn't feel as weak (torque) as the reviews had lead me to believe but is was the slowest of the group. It's handling and breaking seemed on par with the 350z and S2000. The poor MPG and issues I saw on the forums made this decision easy though.

You should have read the whole thread before posting as this has already been covered but they are not that fast STOCK. The SRT6's trapping at 110mph are modified...the stock SRT6 is about on par with an E46 M3. You can find deals on them because they're Chryslers and just like almost all other domestic cars they depreciate quickly. Please don't confuse the Chrysler Crossfire SRT6 with an AMG product...we all know it shares some parts but it certainly isn't an AMG car.

considering the vehicles are made on the same production line, in germany, with the same switch gear and the same mechanicals. I would say that this car is pretty much an AMG, minus of course the big pricetag... and about 15 horsepower between the slk32 and srt-6

Actually it shares less than 40% of it's parts with the Mercedes and has as many components from the C class as it does the AMG car...I'd hardly classify it as an AMG.

I did a lot of research on the SRT-6 and test drove a few of them. The engine is hand built by AMG and signed by the builder! The transmission and diff are Mercedes with the transmission tuned by AMG. That alone is more the 40%. The chassis is Mercedes and built by Carman in the same German factory that they make the SLK.

Now, I did take the S2000 over the xfire SRT-6 for a number of reasons and am 100% happy with my decision. I will admit that the name plate was always in the back of my head but I drove 4 xfires, 2 or them SRT-6s and the others non-SRT-6 but with 6 speed. My driving experience in both SRT-6s is why I respect them so much. It is not a true Mercedes AMG but it does have a real AMG engine and transmission. I understand there are a number of negative factors that have made this car drop in price but all I was saying is that for the $ this car is a monster and you

LOL...learn how to Google at least, if you did you would see that it shares less than 40% of it's compenents with the AMG SLK. Just because you say the engine and drivetrain make up more than 40% of the car doesn't make it so. I'm not knocking the SRT6...it's a neat car and probably would have sold well had it not been so over-priced but because you come on here and say it traps at 110mph doesn't make it so. Can they trap at 110...YES, but not stock, it's pretty easy to extract extra power from a blown car. A pulley swap on my 03 Cobra turned it into a monster...a chip on my 335 picked up 60RWHP and almost 80 lb/ft. of torque.
