I raced a stock one yesterday in my '99 AP1, and it wasnt too slow.. I was only j-u-s-t pulling ahead very slowly.. Although I was only revving to about 8200 or so. Maybe that makes the difference?

Then we were going around a corner, and he had to slow down way more than I did...
y only 8200?

I only got it 3 weeks ago, Im afraid Ill blow it up Im not used to revving a car up that high (having an SR20DET before where it was all about boost), and I assumed that Id be topping out the max power about 8200-8500 anyway..

If you have an '04 AP2 then you'd be redlining at 8200 RPM. If u have anyhting below you should go as close as you can to 9k RPM wihtout hitting the fuel cut off. '05+ all readline at 8k RPM.

He lives in Australia and all model years have the F20c meaning all have the 9000rpm redline.

its not about shifting at max power (8300), but where you're gonna land in the next gear. shifting at 8200 is gonna land you lower than you wanna be for racing.

I wouldn't worry about that too much. If your car is an '00, i'm sure that the previous owner(s) brought it to redline a few times.

Are you serious!? Did the '04+ models also get suspensions and torque upgrades too? 2.2 liters?

I wouldn't call the suspension changes 'upgrades'.. just changes.

And no, Aus still has the F20C to this day I believe.. thats the 2.0L 9k redline motor. The F22C is the 2.2L 8.2k redline motor with additional power and torque seen in the US starting in 04.

With midrange turbo setups, shifting before redline is good because it puts you back where you're making boost. With our car, if you shift early, it puts you back where you're not making much power at all. The best way to drive the car is to shift as late as possible. If you don't want your power trailing off after 8300 (it loses about 15-20 hp) get a VAFC and you can regain all of that lost power. I have one for sale right now.
