Just to clarify...when I missed a gear I lost. I didn't even try to catch up after my fail. When he missed a gear he lost and I honestly don't think he tried to catch back up either. When neither of us missed a gear I won. My car is what I would consider stock. If anyone with gears is local I'd love to mess around a bit to see the difference. I honestly felt he lied about the gears too, but he said he just had them installed with the Kia 4.57 gears. We pulled over after the third run and he asked me if I was impressed. I felt bad, but honestly told him no. I'd consider myself mildly interested in changing the gear out at some point in time and that was a horrible strike against them. Sounds like everyone agrees it wasn't the car. It was the driver.

i can't believe none of you knows why this outcome was the case.

first, obviously the opponent was a new or bad driver.
second, though the AP1 is more modified than you, he is an idiot and noob for starting under vtec vs an AP2.

AP1's will always lose against an AP2 from an under-vtec race; mod for mod.

Given the fact if his opponent had 4.77s it wouldnt have mattered. When I had my gears I climbed so quickly through the range. Did you notice your shift points being different then his? It should still level out to being close to the same even though he has a higher rpm then you. If he had 4.77s you would notice the excessive shifting.

Sounds like the Driver of the Ap1 needs more seat time.

modified bolt ons on an AP1 doesn't even reach stock AP2 whp dyno proven so off the bat... you already throw down more HP to the wheels than him... its just a straight line race, its all about who puts down the most to the street and who doesn't screw up their shifts...

I did a highway roll vs an ap1 with 4.77's and I smoked him. I know though, if I tried it anywhere below 60 km/h I wouldnt have won, he would be making me look slow.

I have seen some AP1s with high millage put down low numbers on a dyno so I would say your motor is probably just more healthy then his
