i would equate the srt-4 (aka neon turbo) with the ford escort cosworth. nobody denies they are fast but it's simply an ugly car that is purpose-built to go fast in a straight line. personally i'd rather have a mustang if that's what i was after.
atleast the cosworth can handle...

The neon has a turbo to be fast, anything can be fast with a turbo!!! To be fair that means the s2k needs a turbo too!

i respect any car with that much HP

but at the end of the day you are driving the car around town, not on a straight line 1/4 mi track, and still have to get in and out of a NEON!

one of the ugliest vehicles ever made.

I dont really like serious competitions between an NA car and a turbo car anyway. You can get your a$$ handed to you buy a Jetta for that matter, if he did a few upgrades. But it to is a JETTA.

I will never think twice about my S2k versus a turbo'd neon or jetta. Now a turbo Audi or something, maybe...

The SRT-4 can handle very well with suspension mods and a better wheel/tire combo. I get sick of all the ricer rhetoric, most any car can handle exceptionally well if you are willing to work at it. Is it just plain luck that an SRT-4 finished 8th overall (won it's class) at the C&D One Lap last year, handily beating competition with far more power, RWD/AWD plus factory backing ??

i agree. most any car can handle well or go fast with mods. that is obvious. you can take a minivan and make it fast if you dump enough money into it. the neon turbo, like the minivan will never look good however while going fast.

yeh anything can be MADE to handle. but not in stock form. guys...thats the the oldest "beating a dead horse" excuse to make - "well if i had this and this and this on my srt 4 it could outhandle a skyline." who gives a rat's ass? modify an awd or competent rwd car with the same stuff and the fwd wont last. fwd has been proven to be inferior.

Umm, but it is a Neon and looks like someone at Dodge crapped out a car; might explain the fart cans...

That explains why the SRT-4 beat fours STi's, a WRX and an EVO 8 amongst others to take it's class at the One Lap with it's inferior FWD layout. Better yet, I think the 8th overall is a better testament to the cars ability. The One Lap is a great test of the overall pedigree of any vehicle that enters. The AWD cars were sure superior were they not (and not stock for that matter) ? It's unfortunate all the fanboy's here cannot except the fact the SRT-4 is a solid "all-around" performer in stock guise and can be made formidable with minimal investment. Then, said fanboy has to resort to the tired "It's still a Neon" qoute.
If I remember correctly, a PT cruiser was in the top 20 finishers.. your logic is flawed.
