Default EVO vs WS6

Ok, last night were heading out to meet up with our friends and a Ford turbo diesel flies by us on the freeway and I dotn think anything of it, then a Firebird flies buy chasing down the truck, so im like what the hell, I'll play. So I catch up and the truck starts to slow down so me and the WS6 line up. He down shifts and I just stayed in 5th and he begins to pull, so I downshift to 4th and by redline I stopped his pull and start reeling him in by 135-140 and just as I get to his door he hits his brakes Ok so now im like wtf, I thought he would kill me (never ran one before) so he pulls up again and shifts down and thsi time im in 4th and we both floor it, I was slowly pulling away at maybe 120 or so I had maybe 2-3 cars on him then he let off. We both get off on the same exit and he waves as he goes by so we wave back, then about 3 blocks later we get caught up at a light, he rols down his window and says thats not stock is it, we say no just slightly modded, hes like man that thing is fast. I ask him what year and he says 2000, so I dont know if something was wrong with it or what, but it was fun to play with him regardless

All I have for mods is a turboback exhaust and a reflashed ECU. I used to have an intake, but I got rid of that as they seem to throw the car off a bit, mine wasnt too bad, but the idle was a bit rougher. The ECU made a huge difference up top, since I now hit 20-22 psi and it holds to redline 7800 rpm.

Like I said I dont know if his car was running right or what but I honestly thought he would pull away from me. I think I may have on of the stronger Evo's I dont know. But before my ECU flash I could pull on STi's. I know he was trying, he would shift down and jump a bit then slow down, back and forth until we would go. I know he was surprised, lol I was too. Now I cant wait for my cams, they say the car pulls very hard up top with cams, they typically put out 30whp or so

If i recall the LS1's lose their top end around 120ish (shift into 5th?)..... but they are quick until then. nice kill, i'm surprised you pulled him up top with your tall 5th gear, doesn't 4th redline at 110 or so in the evo?

Yeah I dont know. I never really messed with an LS1 on the freeway. I figured he would pull hard and when he started pulling the first time I thought it was over, then towards the top of 4th he wasnt pulling anymore, so I figured I had a chance, then slowly started reeling him in, in the mid to top of 5th.

As for redline in 4th, im not sure, lol I really never look down when im racing, well not at the speed anyways

I had an 01 Z28 before my S and it pulled pretty strong up to 145 or 150. I never noticed any real drop off. From what I had read I wasn't looking forward to running an Evo in mine. I think most mags rate the Evo a little quicker. I don't think a modded Evo would have a problem taking any stock Ls1. Just my .02.

Hmmm, my 2000 SS has very strong pull in 3rd, 4th, and 5th, and beyond 120 mph.
