Default first RACE...

so im with a buddy in the car (stock ap2) when a G37-S COUPE pull up to the light and starts rockin his car back n forth (stick). i look over to see a girl in the passengers with her boyfriend (i assume) driving. light goes green but no go this time, i was ready tho!

we then hit the next light n hes behind a car, so he merges to my lane. light goes green n, this duded is riding my bumper. (when he shifted, it looked like his cars front would jump on me. the car next to me then made a left, n i hear him gun it. i do the same! (if i had waited for him hed have too much momentum). i knew hed do something like this so, i left it in second at about 6k. to my surprise, he gave up fairly quick. i looked back n there he was, then he quickly made a right. i said oh well.

i stopped at shell to pump gas, then on y way out (same direction as before) my friend said "isnt that the same guy". so i creep up on his left side, n yup! its him? the ####er looks n starts rocking his car back n forth tremendously! no reving just forward n back about 2 feet. my friend starts laughing, n says "well at least you didnt fill up your tank". i only put $10 in, n was at a little over 1/4 tank.

this is my frist RACE, so i have no idea how to lauch... figured he souldnt either cause i looked at the light on the right side turn yellow (for crossing traffic) n didnt hear his engine reving.

we both took off from iddle.

my car bogged at around 1.5k for a fraction of a second. we were pretty much dead even till about 5k when he pulled slightly (my front wheel at his door). as my revs hit past 6rp, we stayed the same. shift to second for a second or two then got off the gas. we caught up to a truck (truck on his lane). we both hit the brakes (even tho i didnt need to, i could have kept going but, what for). i figured id wait an do a roll. didnt happen, he went behind me, to the left of me n just gunned past me. oh well...

so i lost but, happy withthe result. my only mistake here was taking off from iddle, WHICH IS PROBABLY THE WORST THING I COULD HAVE DONE. if i would have lauched it decently, im sure i would have got the jump, since he didnt.

all in all, very happy... lost by about half a car. my guess.. IF WE HAD KEPT GOING (no truck) HE WOULD HAVE BEATEN ME MY BOUT 1 CARS LENGH.

i have more respect for my car know... n well, i wont be intimidated my those any more.

a stock mini cooper will walk you until end/mid of 2nd if you both engage and take off.

which means.......
drive your car in your powerband.

Hold revs at 6000 rpm and drop the clutch fast. Use the throttle to control wheel spin.

nah that is why he said "use throttle to control wheel spin" as long as your wheels spin instead of bogging down your good. I dropped it at 9k on the track.

I'm still launching on my stock diff at almost 115k miles...I'm boosted and I drop it at 5200-6000 where my peak torque is. Plenty of wheelspin to keep the diff happy and I don't believe (knock on wood) that it will break any time soon.

ok, so how exactly do i do this. IVE NEVER LAUCHED A CAR. (well, just my 6MT TL. i reved it to 3k, dropped the clutch n completely pressed the gas. my car spun all of first, so i didnt go anywhere)

so, rev to 6k. DROP the clutch, not to sure bout the gas tho?

im assuming my tires will start spinnig, so do i leave the the gas pedal where i have been holding it?

sorry, im new to this...

maybe ill have to just try it...

When I drop mine at 5200-6000, I get a rocket like launch with a bit of spin and smoke, but it goes away and they hook up within 50ft under full throttle. I'm well within VTEC and my powerband by the time the tires stop spinning. This is with mid-high 300whp/220tq and street tires.

With decent tires on stock power, I'd imagine you'd just spin tiny bit and hook right on up. I wouldn't practice launching by any means, but 6-7k RPM and you should be fine on street tires. Maybe one of the N/A guys can chime in.
