Fun with a WRX Part 2
Just had my run with one just about a half hour ago. In another posting, I described how a WRX kicked my butt from 50 to 90 and got 4 lengths on me.
Well this time it was different. (No I didn't race the same WRX)
Up till now, I've never tried going 1 on 1 with a stock WRX before but on the way back home with a few boxes of cereal, a heavy toolbox, spare tire and enough crap to fill the passenger side, a yellow WRX Wagon was filled with 3 total young guys including the driver.
We met on the on ramp to the freeway and I was driving home 12:15am at 70mph and I noticed the WRX had an incredibly loud "pssst" sound but looking at the exhaust and such, the car appeared stock otherwise. They zoomed past me around ~80-90ish then slowed down. I kicked down to 3rd, moved up to see everyone looking at me like I had a huge booger on my face. He got the jump, then I pushed it to the floor and the lead the WRX had on me was gone. Switched into 4th and the WRX was like it ran out of breath as I walked it easily before I shut it down at 100 and coasted it. I hit the flashers, gave them the thumbs up and they returned the gesture. All I could hear from their car was "dayummmm" but I couldn't consider that run as being fair because they were heavy 2 extra people.
This is as close as I got to racing a stock Scoobie since most of them are modded in some way. I know the launch is where the WRX is going to have me beat, but I always wanted to see first hand how it stacks up at highway speeds despite what I keep reading from so many other postings.

Nothing says "rice boy" like a BOV for the first mod. For one quarter the price they could have bought a quality manual boost controller and added 25-30 HP instead of robbing HP with a BOV.
Good run either way.
