Hit a small dove!
oh my goodness if that ever happens to me I will freak out. I hate birds. I can't look at them and I can't touch em. And I dont even like feathers. If a bird, especially a dove gets stuck in my bumper and there are feathers all over, and if it happens on the highway, I'll probably freak out and lose control of the car and get into an accident. lol. If I manage to get home somehow, I won't be able to get the dead bird out. I'm gonna have to call the fire department. I'm getting goose bumps just from reading this story. ewwwww~~~!!!!
My car 'ate' a bird once. It got wedged in by the radiator somewhere. After a few days, I noticed that my garage was smelling (I thought I had a dead mouse). After a few days more, I noticed the smell seemed to be following me but I still didn't catch on. It wasn't until I could smell it while stopped at a light that I knew something was wrong. I pulled into a lot and looked into my 'mouth' and there it was. Poor little guy.

I know how you feel
, a few months ago I was backing down my driveway on my toyota tundra. I heard a big *POP* sound, after I back down my driveway I saw feathers and a crushed pigeon, blood everywhere, bad sight indead. I can imagine how it poped... *sigh*

if I may be so inclined as to be politically incorrect:
shit happens.
Only in retrospect can you take a level of comfort in knowing that had you been going 10-15 mph slower.....that dove would have lived. I agree with everyone in that you should have slowed down to a reasonable speed to allow it to get outta the way.
but.....nothing you can do about it now except take this with you and apply it to the next time you see a bird in the road.

I'm reminded of a story I saw in Minnesota where a couple ran off the road and were killed when they hit a tree trying to avoid hitting a raccoon. If it makes sense to avoid the animal, give it a try, but don't take unnecessary chances.
