How'd this happen? 01 S vs Lotus Elise
So earlier today I was driving home from work, top up, and I see an orange lotus at a stop light up ahead. We got around traffic and were cruising pretty fast and both pull up to a light. As it turns green we both take off, I pulled ahead initially and actually stayed ahead...even pulled a little bit in third gear. At the shift to fourth I hit the brakes and had 1/2 a car on him.
Pulled up to the next light and gave him the thumbs up and told him that I loved the car. He had his girl in the car who couldn't have weighed more than 125 or so. How is that even possible? Bad driver? I wouldn't imagine the passenger could account for the difference in speed? I thought I was going to get blown away, I just wanted to see it go.

With a decent driver in the lotus, there is no way the S can beat it until you get to highway speed. Even then, the S would only pull a little. I raced one before. We were driving on local streets and I had a hard time keeping up with him. That thing kept pulling from me slowly(It also had his son as a passenger). I had the chance to met up with him few weeks later and found out that he's a semi auto-x driver.
So answer to your question. The driver was either a crappy driver or he didn't punch it all the way.

my buddy ran one in his 04 rex..prob not as good as some of the "racers" or guys in this section but the lotus was like right behindhim the whole time and wouldbe pulled but not much..he was stock and wrx was exhaust and intake..no passing lane so my boy didnt get owned haha since the guy was in his 40's
unlike the f20c/f22c, it is difficult for the 2zz to stay within the power band (above 6.2k rpm) from the 1-2 shift. the driver most likely couldn't accomplish this. it is a common problem in the celica community.

It might have been the 120hp version. Those things go 0-60 in about 5.9 seconds or so...
The 190hp (or FI versions) are a LOT quicker however.
