Killed a GLX VR6
It's December here in Michigan so I haven't driven the S much recently. Today was warm and dry so I decided to take the cover off and go for a drive to stretch her leggs. On my way back home I saw a GLX VR6 weaving in and out of traffic in my rear view to get beside me at the light. I could hear his aftermarket exhaust as he tached it up beside me. He never looked over but he smoked the tires leaving the light. (You should know I have the speedcraft turbo) Obviously he didn't. I dropped the clutch and cought up to him. Still didn't look over. He turned off on a wide curvey road expecting to loose me. NOT. After two more straight runs I was done toying with him and turned off to head home. He didn't stop but he did wave and I beeped my horn twice. I wanted to find out if he had any other mods because I beat him so easily. Maybe another day. I got home and looked up the GLX VR6 and found that stock it only has 200HP. Not much of a match for even a stock S2k. Well, now I know, and it was fun for a while.
Good kill. A GLX VR6, stock or modified (sans an add-on turbo) shouldn't even be a match for a stock S2000. I know this from personal experience (and it should be pretty obvious for anybody who has half a brain).
I'm now driving a 200hp GLX VR6 and there's no way it would even come close to keeping up with my dearly-departed S2000. That includes accelerating from a standstill, accelerating from a roll, braking, and handling. The only advantage that the Jetta has is more low-end torque (195 lb-ft that peaks fairly early) which gives it a little jump off the line but then engine seems to run out of steam past 5000 rpm or so. Only other advantage that I can think of is the huge trunk.
