and then of course went all out on the third and got the s2k....its not that i cant handle the car....it was actually uneven ground around the corner because of road work being done like a week before....
I love how people who spin out deny that they can't control their cars.

It's not a track. Of course there'll be rain, snow, gravel, leaves, undulations, etc.

Being able to control an S2000 in perfect conditions in the dry is not that hard. That's like saying, I can be a Stock Day-Trader in a good economy.

The real test is how you do when the conditions get sketchy.

I agree with the idea that the s2000 is too much for an 18 year old, but it's all about maturity.
I'm glad you were able to walk away from this incident, and to everyone else, don't follow that bs logic of well I'll just learn the hard way. Most of the time it's better to learn through others' mistakes.
Glad to hear you're ok, hope you have enough insurance to cover it all.

I bought my S2K 2 months before my 18th birthday, and I've just learned to drive it within my limits. When I was cruising lower wacker with some local Chicago guys who have some pretty insane rides, I tried to keep up, but only within my own abilities. You just have to realize you and your car aren't invincible. I learned that the hard way with the first car that was "available for me to drive", a 2000 Eclipse GT that I had slide off the road once, although luckily I was able to repair all the damage myself.

I'm glad to hear you guys are alright, though. I've found that if I like my car so much, I should worry more about keeping her in good condition than trying to show off to others. There's not much of a point to show off a totaled car.

I completely agree, it is about maturity but 2-3 years driving experience? It is a powerful and tricky car to drive sometimes. I am 31 and my first car was when I was 18 was a chevy cavalier (3.1 V6 RS) and I managed to spin that out because I was going down an expressway ramp too fast. Another time was when I was just switching lanes at 45mph in the rain and the car only had 115 horse! My second car was a MR2 spyder I got when I was 24 and I never spun it out, I thought it was the safest car I had so far as far as control because it tends not to lose grip as fast as the S in the rear if you push it. I could take that car to it's limits (One of the cylinders went dry from turning so hard and the engine died) I got my S about 2 years ago and I am still learning the car. It is NOT an easy car to master and NOTHING beats time behind the wheel which is why people are saying you are too young for that car. The majority of 18 years olds lack the experience unless they were delivering tofu in the mountains for their dad since they were 11. 2 weeks after I got the S, It started snowing and silly me thought that I could make it with all seasons, yeah right, I spun into an intersection going 25! 70 mph spinout?

To the OP: What were you expecting on the street? Who takes turns at 70 on the street?!! Highway limits where I live are 65mph! What if you or you friend got killed or if their was a child playing where your car hit? Anyway your in deep enough..

Bottom line: I learned that the S2000 is a car you have to respect or it won't respect you. If I were you I'd go with something cheaper and safer with less insurance cost (but something fun like the new SI) or you can find an old hatch or CRX and drop a faster motor in it or even a type R. It will be just as fast if not faster and corner very well without AS much risk of spinouts. Just a few suggestions but do what you want... I'm sure that you will become a great driver as experience is our best teacher. Take it easy...

P.S. sorry for all the run-ons..

Reminds me when I was 19 and I purchased a 94 3000gt SL, lol at 14% intrest. It was a really nice car. I was going to college at night and there was one corner I always took hard, well one night, going 70 mph around this blind curve I lost the rear of the car and I went into the oncoming lane, drivers door in the oncoming lane. I gained control of the car and I stopped in the brush on the side of the road. I was so lucky that no other car was coming around that curve, because I would be dead today. Since that evening I have respected every car I've owned, from my civics, s2000's ,pickps, vans, suv's and even one of my current cars, a C6 Corvette. I consider myself lucky, some others are not, consider your self lucky and learn a lesson from your actions,

Larry

Seriously, you are either jealous that you didn't have the opportunity to purchase this car when YOU 18, or you are just hating on people younger than you. People need to stop this 18 year old stereotypical bullcrap. People may have their fair share of experiences dealing with young, or inexperienced drivers mixed up with a beast like an S2K, but it's not fair how people just generalize the whole 18 year old population as young, reckless, and immature. People shouldn't judge others, unless you are perfect in every way. That's my .02

Stereotyping and facts are different. The fact is that kids between 15-21 have over a 50% chance of getting into an accident thats there fault. If you don't believe me, call you insurance agent and he/she will give you all the facts you need. Ingorance is bliss. Also, maybe an s2000 with a supercharger is a beast, but a 14 second car is not a beast by any standards today. Maybe in 2000 when it first came out, it was considered a beast, but not anymore

Its not a beast in a straight line for sure, but in the turns the snap oversteer on the AP1s can catch people by surprise. You can drive a 930 turbo fast in a straight line, but once you hit a corner and lift, your dead. The same applies to AP1s but to a lesser degree. Worn tires, quick shifts mid turn are a recipe for disaster on an S2000s.
