To have a good chance at beating a stock Lightning, start the race from 80mph.

They haul ass from 0-100, but the drag starts to kill them above that.

Just for info, the GMC Syclone was just about the fastest truck ever mass produced. A 4.6L with a turbo and AWD, way lighter than a Lightning.

If I am not mistaken, those lightnings rn mid 13's stock.. They are virtually the same motor as the 03+ cobras... 5.4L supercharged 3 valve putting down about 385 crank hp. I used to be big on the SVT forums and those things can easily be upgraded putting down serious power..
03-04 cobras have the 281, 4.6 DOHC supercharged v8, 390 hp. high 12 second car stock.

99-00 lightnings were 5.4 SOHC supercharged v8, 360 hp, and like 450lbft torque. 01+ were same engine, with 380 hp i do believe or about that.

I use to have a lightning, they're monsters from a roll, stock or modified. race one from a dig, and get the jump, and hopefully you'll stay a head, depending on modifcations.

I think at higher speeds the S would out run one due to the fact that truck aerodynamics suck.
when i had my lighting, i had mine pegged 140mph, and the rpms were still increasing.

the speedo registered 140, and it was burried there. The only mods i had were a cold air intake, bigger mass air meter, and a pulley. Of course the outside temps were probably 35 to 40 degrees. They especially love the cold air.

It got to that speed pretty fast, as i was in the process of blowing some dude in what he thought was a fast diesel off the road, i looked down and saw my speed and slowed down, considering he was about 15 truck lenghts back.

unless the S was forced induction, i think the lightning could take one up top. My s is basically stock, and once i get above 120mph or so it's slow going it seems like, or once i have to hit 6th gear

I've race the same guy 2xs fro 80-135 topdown. 80-110 holding 110-135 pulling away.
I'd like to find the guy with my topup and run 60-120
0-75 Lighting is quicker than S2000, I've also had a couple 10-45 redlight-greenlight runs
with no luck

you can make ANYTHING fast with the right amount of money, that silverado is a 1 of 100's of thousands. none of us will ever encounter a truck like that on the street.
one that runs low 10s...you're right. you more than likely won't run across one on the street. but there are TONS of trucks/suvs that run 12s on the street

pound for pound a car will always be faster, i'm not going to deny that. but like i said, just because you pull up beside a truck and he's trying to pick a fight don't just write it off as a guranteed win. you might be staring at his taillights before you realize what happened

From a dig, it would have been worse for you imo. They hook pretty well, I have a bunch of friends with Lightnings. They are quick but anything above 120 or so and a car will pull it hard. My friends dad's Lightning dyno'd at 395whp and 450tq at the wheels with exhaust and tune.
