Default M3 KILL?

I've got to start off by saying hello to everone, as this is my first post here on the forum. I bought my '07 Laguna Blue about 3 weeks ago, and I am absolutely in love with it! So thanks to all of you, I've already learned so much.

Encounter:

Okay, I've gotta tell somebody about this before I explode. There's only like one guy here at work that will appreciate this. Driving to work this morning, there is this E46 M3 in front of me, sporting some really sweet looking rims. I pull along side of him at the next light and kind of grin. I don't know if he had aftermarket exhaust, but I could here him at idle with the top up. He's a middle aged dude, so I didn't figure he was gonna go for it, but he bolts from the light pretty quickly, so I tear off after him, running out first and second before we hit another light. At this point, I'm really impressed that I managed to stay about at his rear bumper the whole time. This light, we both know it's on. He looks over at me and I give him the thumbs up. I turn off VSA and rev to about 5k. The light turns green and we both peel out for a solid second then take off. At the top of first I'm at his front wheel well; I shift hard into second, chirping tires. I gain on him pretty hard in second and pull even with him. By the time I get to the top of third, I've put about a half car length on him, and we both ease off. I give him another thumbs on and continue on to work.

I don't know how hard he was going for it, but I was just so pumped to have even stuck with him. I love this freaking car!!!

He wasn't going too hard it seems. E46 M3 can walk a stock S pretty easily, unless you are a hell of a driver. Either way though, anything goes on the street. Congrats!

i assume the e46 was a coupe and not converty?
usually, he'd kill u, but it sounds like u can launch and knows what u r doing. bigger aftermarket wheels slows down the M a bit to make it more even.
given equal drivers, it's not a contest. since u won, consider urself the better driver (or one that was more willing to push their cars).

Yeah, it was a coupe. Wheels were huge, probably 20".

Possibly an SMG equipped car in a slower program mode...no way you'd 'gain on him pretty hard' on an E46 M3 that was intent on racing.

Like I said, I don't know how hard he was going for it, but he definately peeled out pretty good at the start.

I've beat e46 m3's with my previous 02 s2k. It's all on the drivers. Given even drivers, however, the m3 will shit on the S. I also beat an nsx in my old ap1, but then I raced someone in a modded nsx that knew how to drive and they put like 10 lengths on me, lol.
