Default me vs C5 with Intake/Exhaust

Let me start off by saying I am inline pro turbocharged making 412whp on a dyno dynamics dyno. Anyway, I decided to race my friend in his C5 vette with intake and exhaust and also a set of nitto drag radials. Went from a dig and he murdered me, went from a roll in 2nd doing 45 and he pulled me the first run, then the second run we were dead even til 130. I know that theres nooo way this should have happened, I've raced a C5 z06 with intake and exhaust to 120 and pulled him by a nose, and he was a good driver...this C5 wasn't the Z06... Lastly, I will state that my heat wrap that kept the coupler from touching the manifold came out and resulted in a huge boost leak that lost me 2-3psi. I'm figuring that this is the cause for my loss, but I figure: 2-3 psi = 30-50whp, even with 360-370whp on a dyno dynamics, I should be able to pull this C5. I'm going to get an elbow welded on to the compressor housing to alleviate this problem, so hopefully I'll race him again next week and post my results.

you sure all he had was an intake and exhaust? A 100 shot of the juice would be easy to hide and make the story more plausible. I'm guessing the car didn't sound like it had an aftermarket cam either? I'm sure your boost leak hurt you more than you think also.

I raced a "Intake/Exhaust" C6 vette from ~55-135 and we were dead even the whole way. Turns out he had a lot more then just an intake/exhaust.

The dude was probably BSing you. He also probably felt like an idiot when he couldn't be the little 4-cyl with his 400+rwhp vette. Personally, idk why people need to BS their mods unless they need their ego to be boosted every race

intake and exhast on a C5 is = to about 320-330whp. add a tune and 340whp or so. so if you were leaking and only make 350-360whp this sounds totally realistic to me. the vette is geared perfect, its light(3100-3200lbs, thats what an evo wieghts), and VERY aerodynamic.

good run!

I also had a passenger and some crap in the trunk so the weight advantage was gone and was closer to being even with his vette.

The interesting thing about the last race where we pulled even and I may have nosed him out was that every time I was in boost I was pulling, but when I had to shift and accelerate again, he'd pull me until I hit ~6k rpms, where I'd pull to 8600, then same thing til 5th gear was hit...I really felt like I needed longer gears so I wouldn't have to shift so damn soon. I really don't know why you turbo'd or SC'd guys go with 4.56 or 4.77 gears, its just beyond me, I was already having to shift pretty fast.

I ran a C5 vette in my stock turboed STi and he had i/e and I beat him from 50-100mph but he ended up pulling me on the top end to 120mph by 1 car length.

We'll see what happens after I get my fabricated intake from Stage6 and a 'touch up' tune. The more I've been reading other people's stories, the more Im thinking I was BS'd about the mods, but theres no way he had cams, no lumps at all in the exhaust note, on top of that, I looked in the interior a wee bit and didn't see a bottle. There's not a whole lot of room in the vette to hide a bottle either, but damn did it pull.

C5's are a lot quicker than most give them credit for.

You gotta be kidding me stock S2K's beat C5's all day long Lol, sorry for the sarcasm (some people will get it and some will get pissed...oh well) He could have a mild cam. I know my Vette has a pretty mild cam, and if you didnt really listen to it you wouldnt notice it. If you guys were about equal in power and weight then it sounds right. If you get your issues fixed you should pull him pretty good.
