i finally got to race one of those new 2.0 turbo gti's. here's how it went down. as my buddy and i are leaving the gentlemens club we get onto a two lane each way side road that runs parallel to I-95. i see a pair of lights weaving in and out of traffic at a low speed. (limit was 35mph) as he gets closer to my position in traffic i see its an 06' gti. he pulls up next to me as we are still moving and kinda just speeds up a little then slows back down. he continues to do this until i do the same. i know he wants to go but as we were on a side road i didn't want to go to fast, and there was plenty of traffic.
there is a car in front of me in the left lane at a light. he is next to that car and then a late 90's accord pulls up next to me, rolls down his window and proceeds to say "yo man are you gonna let my boy take you like that? i was like yeah ok buddy (we hadn't really raced) the light changes and i roll up on the gti with the windows down and ask him if he wants to head out to the highway for a real run. he says ok and we make our way there.
we are rolling next to one another for a couple of miles till we got a good clearing. we start from a 40ish mph roll ()i am in 2nd) and with three honks were are off. he kept up really well until maybe 80 then i just pulled and pulled. we did this one more time with the same results. the third time we are lining up waiting for traffic to clear and an evo 8 pulls up alongside us. (three lanes each way) we figure the evo wants to go because he is just pacing us. he agrees to a race. so we again go from a 50 mph roll.
in about a split second all i see are evo tail lights and find myself turning my attention to the gti once again. same results as before so not much to say here. we slow for traffic and the gti just keeps buzzing on through. i figure no way i am letting him win. he flys by on the right of the traffic. i get my opportunity to do so myself and i give chase. it took me a good half mile to make up the distance. i find myself giving it everything i had and it took me until about 125 to pass him.
i flew by him going all the way to 140 then shut it down. we both slowed down gave each other the thumbs up and went on our merry way. it was a lot of fun, and i am sorry that this was so long. it was my first race in ages.

Nice kill...Those new GTI's are a bit underrated I think...My buddy just got his dynoed again because he got it chipped...stock it put down 192WHP and with the chip it put down 206whp! Not bad at all...just a bit on the heavy side.

 

 

 

i got to drive one myself recently and i really like the power delivery. it comes on early and continues almost to redline. just not my style (the vehicle, not the delivery)
