Default MY02 VS M3 (240HP ENGINE)

so i'm driving to work this morning on the NJ Turnpike Southbound. Just before the Lincoln Tunnel exit, I see a yellow M3 (no plates and temp license plate).. he obviously sees me coming (spa yellow) because he hits his hazards as i get about half a car behind. We really couldn't do much because of traffic. So we proceed to the tolls - playing a little, getting to about 80mph or so.. we go through the tolls side by side, but pretty hard to stomp it out of the tolls because of the merging traffic.. but he does so anyway.. i let him go and get caught a couple cars back in the left lane.. anyways we get up to a point where we have about a 1/4 mile of clear road so I pull up beside him again around 65mp in 3rd.. look over give him a nod. he nods back and we both punch it at the same time.. we are pretty much even through third, but as i hit the top of fourth i pull about a nose on him and then i have to shut it down because of traffic ahead and a car cuts into my lane.. i had to get off the next exit.. flashes his lights and we are on our way.. I think if we could have kept it up and i got into 5th i would have pulled about 1/2 car to a car.. does this sound right? i had the top down and my brother in the passenger seat (about 200 lbs).. anyway felt good because i think i had a good run and what could have been a better outcome given more space against a worthy ride...the only other run i had was with an c6 vette (not so good outcome, but fun)
Thanks for reading..

edit - sorry for no speeds... i'm just concentrating on driving..

if both stock, and you had passenger with top down then sounds pretty good. nice run.

so with top up and no passenger, i should pull a little pretty good or is this really a drivers race? how do the numbers compare on these two cars.. i know they are both 240 hp, but the m has more torque..

these two cars are a very good match up , but yes with no pass and top up you should be gradually pulling every gear. top down won't effect your pull down low, but it really does effect the cars performence up top. Your right to though it's pretty close to a drivers race.

like hvrzz said, they are pretty close, but i think we will pull on them.. i'm not sure how much. i don't think it would get to more than 2 cars at best (everything equal). I think the m3 might pull from a dig a bit though.
