Night at the local strip (long)
First let me start by saying that I did not get to race any LS1's tonight. (sorry glen)
Also mind you NONE of these starts I did were from drops of greater than 3500rpm, due to it being cold and I got nothing but wheel hop all night. ((also, I got the winter rims on again with the worn down S02's))
I decided to run down to the local strip tonight with some friends. To start off the night, I ended up racing some girl in a yellow mustang GT. Automatic. Here's the thing. This girl raced me from a roll, from a stop, from a roll, etc. etc. I probably raced her 8 times no kidding. She didn't get a single kill, but I got 8. She would not give up! She also followed every loss with a loser fly by. Never once does she look at me, or give me a thumbs up. NOTHING!
So one time that I'm about to do yet another roll start with her, a mustang 5.0 stick shift pulls up next to me on the other side. All of us go, and the 5.0 and GT get a jump, as expected. But I quickly cover that and pull on both of them. I also end up next to the guy at the next light. He's got 3 guys in the car and it's just me and my friend in mine.... so weight is even more on my side. I ask him if he's stock, and he says yeah. He's like "that car is fast". I said "thanks". He says lets' go. So light turns and we go. He gets a jump as usual, but I easily out run him by 60 and pull ahead again. Thumbs up and go our seperate ways.
Next up is an eclipse spyder GST. Stickers all over. We go from 50, and he is by far the closest race of the night so far. But by 90 I had about 2 lengths on him. Afterward I pull over and talk to him for a while. He's got boost controller, hks blow off valve, turbo timer, and fuel system upgrades. Not sure what he's running his PSI at but it's obviously not stock. Lots of suspension upgrade type stuff too.
Next race is a few of the usual that want to run and see how they do. (i am finding more people know what the S2000 is now and want to give it a shot) A civic, an integra, and 2 cavaliers. After that I get a race with a Ford taurus SHO. We go from a roll at 45 and he takes me at first, but I pull ahead and we shut it down about 90mph when I've got 4 lengths on him. We get stopped at a light and he asks if my S is stock. Of course it is, and he says wanna go from a stop? Sure. Light turns, go. I shut it down at 70 when I've got 3 lengths on him or so. Another thumbs up and off seperate ways.
On my way home I'm thinking how much fun this car is to drive. It gets great attention and lots of questions. I love this car, and I wouldnt trade it for a faster one. (well not most faster ones) I'm proud to own an S. Not just because I can race it, but because it catches the attention of enthusiasts. And I just like the car.
