Oops... I think you threw a rod
I usually just read posts in Street Encounters for entertainment purposes, but I've had two experiences recently which I must relate.
Just tonight, driving into work, on the perfect top down evening, I was assualted by a duo of modded fart can bearing Acuras. Being my usual restrained self (married, professional, and too much to lose if caught street racing) I let them pass. However, something strong and devil-like possessed me, and I downshifted from 5th to 3rd and let them have it. There was no real contest and my point was made pretty quickly. Maybe ended up about 90mph and I shut down - moved right a lane and played innocent. The two Acuras continued on their way dueling it out amongst themselves. More power to em I thought.
Within a 10th of a mile, the highway became fouled with smoke so thick I could not see the car in front of me. Of course I slowed to crawl (as did everyone around me) now looking for the carnage on the side of the road. With all that smoke, I was sure one of those guys had lost it into the center divider and exploded.
However, no bodies or wreckage was to be found. About 1/2 mile down the road, exiting at the first available ramp was one of the two Acuras pouring smoke out of the back. I guess he blew a rod. I actually feel a little guilty....
What happened tonight was the second time someone has blown an engine infront of me. Several months ago (essentially the last time I raced anyone), while playing with a 3rd gen F-body trans-am, the guy blew his engine right in front of me. My car was actually covered in oil. My windshield wipers were overcome, and I actually had to stop and wash my windows.
I'm done messing with these idiots. From now on they can just pass me.
