At $40k (or less) for 350 hp and even more torque and 3200 lbs, or under $50k for 405 hp, 3100 lbs and a track ready chassis there is no mass production car, in the US, available that even comes close to a C5 for bang4buck off the showroom floor.

The 350Z looks to be a good value at sub-$30k for a decently equipped model, but the extra $10k to a Vette buys you a lot of power.

Now, for $50k I'm very interested in a B18C5 powered Lotus Elise....

I can accept that. But one thing Im about is that how a 240hp car can beat a 280+hp with 260lb torque against 175 at 7300 rpm which is what the S2k has.? If you wonder why I said this is due to Wisconsin S2k.

I think Nissan is aiming for a price point at this time. They seemed more concerned with mass production than performance quality of the final product. The 350Z share basically the same engine as the Altima, Maxima, G35, and probably their next minivan. The original Sentra SER was special, the new one ! I hope they up the performance level to match the expectations.

I am sure the 350Z has it advantages, I just wished Nissan and Mazda had done more with their sports cars. I find it disturbing that nobody is pushing the performance envelope. The cars are fast, but there seems to be more compromises than ever.

Are we using new math? First off, WTF has 175 at 7300rpm?? 175 what? huh?? And you keep saying 280+ when even on Nissan's website they say "targeted" 280hp. It doesn't sound like they are going to get 280+, it sounds like they are struggling to get 280hp as it is. And you keep talking about 280hp vs 240hp, etc. Helloooooooo, you can't just look at a car and go, well since this has more hp it will win. The 350z weighs more than the S2k. Different gearing ratio, different Rear wheel circumference, different final drive ratio, different power curve, etc.

I wish I could be a troll...

The 350z is not a performance car in my eyes in the least bit. On the contrary it's a retro-tribute to the Z's of old.. Why did Nissan put practially the same motor in the Z as in the Maxima? My guess is the had to same goals in mind as the revived T-Bird. And performance is not among them.. If it was.. Nissan, you morons..

and just in case someone thinks of I dillusions of my Prelude being a performance car, believe me, I don't.
