Default Is this right?

im confused...i have a completely stock 2001 yellow s2...i was at the freeway doin 90+ when this brand spanking new mustang 06 or 07 with no plates comes to my side gassing it...so i downshift to 4th and floor it...i thought i was going to pass him till he starts creeping up on my side quick and gives me about half a car, then turns into a whole car as i redline and shift to 5th ..at this time im wondering what kind of a mustang is this... he had no signs whatsoever...to top it off he had a body kit or whatever it was...sounded pretty mean too..this was the first time i dealt with the new ones...what is the average hp for the gt..and another question did they already have the cobra or the saleen for these new models...as to my knowledge i dont think so but then again i could be wrong as i dont keep up with ford news...whats your opinion on this..and mind you i am a good driver with a couple of track days on my belt so dont even go there with "you didnt know how to shift crap"...and i know the s2 is good on races froma roll...lol ..well anyways just my side of the story..still confused..maybe i gotta go F I now....

actually, sounds about right for a brand new 2006 Mustang GT with a stick. He's up on you by ~60hp, and higher speeds is where hp differences really become obvious. Good effort, maybe you'll get luckier next time

Could have been a Roush Mustang maybe? Obviously not the s/c version otherwise you'd have needed a telescope to see him as he would have been so far ahead (If I am not mistaken the non s/c Roush upgrades are just for handling and cosmetics)

Nice death

One other thing to think about at high speeds is torque. Just for comparison on how important torque is, the Z4 with less horsepower (225) has a high top speed than we do because it has more torque (214) necessary in the taller gears.

The new Mustang GT has 320 ft/lb torque stock. That much extra torque really helps it over come the weight difference. Also, with some simple bolt ons, you can get 30 extra hp pretty easy and cheap (I have a friend that just bought one and is looking at that stuff).

Bottom line, unfortunately you won't be able to beat a stock GT without mods (on a roll or from 0). The good news is you can easily outbrake it and our handle it. So at a track, you should be able to out do the car.

it's torque AND gearing. not just torque. for example, a previous Generation mustang GT with 302lb/ft of torque will not pull on an AP1 on the top end. (i have no idea how the AP2's top end is)

Well, as you mentioned, its obviously modded (atleast body wise). You also stated it sounded mean, so I'm guessing an aftermarket exhaust. Who knows what else is underneath the hood. A stock one is already a good competitor against the S2k. A modded one on the other hand....

Just ... wow.

I was going to write a mean sentence. Instead, please disgregard that post -- and the concept that torque is the singular determining factor of top speed. Aerodynamics, gearing, horsepower ...
