Yeah, the older autos don't have the tertiary port that allows the RX8 to keep making decent power past 7200RPM. Considering the auto doesn't even go past 7000, it's missing 2000rpm of peak power.

But, drag racing an S2000 is really silly... about the same as doing it in an RX8.
why? because half of s2k owner cant launch the car, and shift quickly and thus run horrible times and then conclude that the s2k is a bad drag car?

mine seems to drag race just fine.

Don't worry about wasting gas, they get WAAAY worse mileage than us, so you're wasting more of theirs than yours, hahaha.
lol...

I raced a turbo charged rx8 once, he was entering the highway on the onramp and i looked over and this thing looked like it belong in the Fast and the Furious
So of course i slow down to 75 mph and sure enough he speeds up next to me and downshifts i look over and smile
I thank the good Lord for this lite snack am about to have, he takes off i give him about a full second and gun it on 3rd
It wasnt even close.
I slowed down look over at the guy he gave me a thumbs up and so did I
And just went our seperate ways.
So even boosted i dont think those cars put down good power, am i right to assume this?

Marcus

Depends. Most turboed RX8's had the Greddy kit. I had one on my car, and it was for lack of a better term a piece of garbage. But it was the 1st kit out. Out of the box I went from 180 whp to about 230 whp. The EManage Blue was a terrible fuel management system. I pulled it, and put on some better stuff. In the end we had a wastegate spring issue that wouldn't let me boost past 6.5 psi. In the end I was running about 260 whp. There are some people running it to it's limit. About 12 psi, and a little over 300+ whp. There are newer kits out now (but a lot more expensive) with T4 turbos that are putting out in the 330 whp range. Ignition & fuel system are the sticking points for the RX8. There are supposed to be 2 supercharger systems coming out, but the RX8 starts at about 180-185 whp range so already it is a bit handicapped.

I'm not sure why people think the RX8 should be competitive with the S2000. One is a 2 door, 2 seat lightweight racer car. The other has 4 seats, kind've 4 doors, hardtop. The Rx8 weight a good 200 lbs. more than the S2000, as if you put in 2 additional seats and the corresponding metal associated with that you would add 200 lbs. to the S2000 as well. Not to mention the S2000 engine and RX8 engine are alike in that a lot of it's power comes at high revs. Try strapping an automatic onto the S2000, and I would guarantee an equally poor race.

I don't even bother if it only can reach 230whp with a turbo. that's really low. even with the new kit, it's around 300whp. It's basically no contest to other aftermaket turbo cars at all.

Well it was only $2800, and the only one available at the time. New ones with EManage Ultimate are a bit better/pricier. 300 whp is not bad, not great but not bad. Stock Comptech & Vortechs were running around that level (290 whp). Tuned you can get quite a bit more, but then again you are not talking >$3000.

Most people who are serious about hp gains on the RX8 are now looking at the Mazsport turbo kit. They are in the 330 whp range. With a T4 there is more possibility from there, just the ignition system is maxing out at that point. Most people are content at that power level. I haven't seen a whole lot of RX8 owners craving more power than that for a DD RX8. Most people that want 450+ whp are looking at 20B 3 rotor engine swaps. In which case 500+ whp is more than likely.
