you're right...both out accelerate the S and out handle it on both tight technical courses as well as long, sweeping curves...

Wait, what was your point again? The 7 and Elise have better power/weight ratio and outclass the S in all categories...so um..they are like a Mustang how?
Wait............... If I was born yesterday I might takes your word for it, but since I born in 1966 then I think you must be joking for making that statement here in the S2K forum.

Sure...these are good examples of some unique and high performing cars in their own right and way closer in comparison then a Mustang for sure. The RX7 however has a rotory turbo motor so its in a different class for comparison, but closely resembles the overall performance aspects as well as the Elise. The Elise has a Toyota 4 banger so it is more closely comparable, but it falls well short at 190hp and 129tq. What keeps it competitive is its extremely light weight of 2000pounds. Both very good performing cars, but both more different from the S then the same.

Damn it, my posts always end up with arguements!

SLWASFK,
He's talking about the ingenuity behind the S, not strictly performance numbers. Zoom out of the arguement for a bit.

However, if the RX-7 can't be compared to the S and neither can the Elise, then what can be? Obviously no car with more than 4 pistons b/c that would be a different class too. Hmmm...porsche boxter? No...no that's faster than the S and would contradict this statement you made, "The s2000 does this better then anyone else. Power to weight and balance is what this car is about." So that pretty much leaves the Lancer's, Civic's, Accords, beaters, etc. Yep, this car definitely outperforms and at a great mpg too! [sarcasm].

s2000junky: I feel that what your were simply getting at was the amazing engineering accomplished by Honda. So, yes, in that sense no other car can be compared to it. That's why we all went and bought one! We all agree with you that this car is awesome, but not for it's mpg or max power output. It's power:weight ratio is pretty good, but clearly the Elise has it beat. That's not what this car is about either. This car is known for its breakthrough engineering, sexy looks, go kart handling, and wind-in-your-face driving. It's a fairly powerful car that handles great. Perfect for track racing. So are alot of other cars, but the S just seems to execute it the experience of racing so much better IMO, and for whatever the reason.
Well said, and sometimes I think I forget that mine isn't stock anymore, so I have to remember how my stock S delivered comparatively. Maybe its just more mine thats in a class of its own peace out

I don't consider I am smart, but I am working very hard for most things I had. I think the best comparision for most human are like wine, better with age. I know for a fact that I am wiser now than I was 10 or 20 years ago.

[QUOTE=SLWASFK,Nov 8 2007, 04:35 AM] That's because you're awesome...

I haven't forgotten this is an S2000 forum, and I'm not joking either. I'm being realistic. I like the S. It's a nice car, aesthetically pleasing, quick, handles nice... But I'm not going to make claims that it can't live up to.

For the record mellowyellow, just because you're old doesn't mean you're smart. However, perhaps you have a point about some of my semantics. It would be better to say the 7 and Elise out perform, not out class the s2000. They are in the same class(though the Elise is a bit more expencive).

hp/lb:

S2000 - 12.01
RX-7

12.1? that seems a little high for a stock s. Is that an AP2? I know they weigh a about 75pounds more then an early Ap1. With my bolt ons I figured a reasonable but conservative estemet on my crank hp of 265 since i'm 220hp to the wheels and then figured a weight of 2750, since the calculations are done without driver weight.

10.3 is what my car makes.
sorry, I thought they were 2900lbs, not 2800lbs.

11.67 for an AP1. 2800/240

lol I'll pm you with my car's power/weight when I get it on the Dyno.
