While driving down a 4 lane parkway last night in traffic, I ease up beside this plain Jane 4 door Civic that starts messing with me. I'm thinking, "yeah, right. I'm not even going to waste the gas." Then I hear his big 'ole waste gate go Whoooosh. Funny how fast the tables can turn! He pulls into the next convenience store and I follow. He's a nice guy and he shows me his hardware. He's got a 1999 Civic SI VTEC motor in there with a turbo and intercooler, underdrive pulleys...the whole nine yards. He says it makes 280hp at the wheels (yeah right). We talk cars for a while and he suggests we just go hit them from 0-80. I say what the heck.

I got a decent launch, and he bogged it just a little. I have him by about 1 1/2 car lengths before I hit second... and then he absolutely sucks my headlights out!!! By the time I see 80, he had about 2 car lengths on me and must have been doing 100.
I gave him a friendly flash of the lights...and drove home with my tail between my legs. Looks like I took a knife to a gun fight!

 

Wow, that's crazy! You're not going to run into too many sleepers like that...nice story.

 

Yeah, there's a few cars like that in my area. I remember seeing this older Saturn take off like crazy on the freeway once. I think he was trying to instigate a race with me and another CRX. Didn't work. He almost hit the crx too.

Lots of people in my area like to modify their cars, though most of its all just for show. But then there's those few that are the complete sleeper.

yea, that was his BOV....280? maybe, I mean if he was going 100 when you were going 80. 280 to the wheels for a Civic 4 door is good for low 12s.

 

Holy sleeper batman, kinda reminds me of my boy with a GTI-VR6, stock looking, with a twin turbo and a garrett chip.

 

wrong.. 280 hp is like 13s and 14s.......

its a b16a2 with turbo... its very possible to hvae 280 hp.....


my friend has a monster si.. has 500hp..... at 20 psi.. . hehe very coool

 

this goes to show, you cant win them all!! and never underestimate your oponent.
