Default s2000 vs eclipse vs stealth

I went to the movies a few days back and this guy in an eclipse with a spoiler, ground lights and an exhaust decided to challenge me to a race. The stealth was stock from what I could tell. We went out to this virtually deserted road and ran the quarter mile a couple of times. My S2000 is completely stock and I had a passenger with me while they did not. When the eclipse and I ran I beat him by a good 3 cars. No surprise. The Stealth ran me a little closer only beating him by about a car. He was mad that he lost and wanted another race.

I agreed and this is where I have a question. I lost the race because I couldn't hook up the power. I was launching from 4k-4.5k and let the clutch go. My car revved up to 8 almost immediately so I shifted to second, same thing, third, same thing again. finally I got it down at about 3000 rpms in fourth. By that time it was too late and I lost. I think it was my clutch slipping but I thought I would ask what you guys thought. Also what can I do to keep that from happening again. I am sure it is a stupid mistake but the last racing I did was in an sti and you could rev it up all the way and pop the clutch and it would just go. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

sounds like the clutch delay valve. Its in place specifically do you don't roast the clutch by trying to launch or shifting at high RPMs.

Thanks for the advice. When does that kick in exactly because I didn't really do anything different than the first two times.

I have an AP1 but I was under the impression the CDV was there to protect the tranny at the cost of the clutch.

Actually, it's there to protect the differential at the expense of the clutch. Sounds like the OP probably burned the hell out of his clutch because of it. Anyways, here's a link to the DIY thread showing you how to remove the clutch delay valve so you don't have these problems the next time you launch your car

be careful so u dont cause ur clutch to slip though. That can be caused by bad launching thus causing bogging/no tire spinning. Thats how I got a nice $1100 bill for a new clutch

Ok so is it safe to remove the CDV? I don't want to screw up my differential.
