Question S2000 vs. Squirrel....

So here I am... back at home... hanging out with my younger brother for his birthday. (he's home from college as well).

We decide to go out and hit some of the local S curves and he begins to tell me a story... one of which happened last weekend:

"Do you remember Scott B------ from High School?"... I'm like "yeah... I graduated with 90 kids, remember?"... "Did you know his younger brother?". "No, I really did not... I just knew that those two kids were spoiled biatches... got more handed to them then Ricky Shroeder on Silver Spoons... I also remember mom telling me that the younger brother (approx. 10 years younger then Scott- who is 2 younger then me) got a 2004 S2000 for his 16th Birthday "

My Brother continues; "well... I was just told that he was racing down F--- street last weekend... trying to show off for some friends. A squirrel... yes a ing SQUIRREL popped out in front of him... the kid freaked out... tried to swurve to miss a SQUIRREL... lost control of the car at that speed... and wrapped it around a damn tree. He's 'ok' I guess... but the car is ing totaled... brand new too"

I say, "Jesus... THAT is why you do NOT give a 16yr old kid a $35k car."

Seriously... what are parents thinking!?? I know there are a select few kids out there who are competant enough to know what they are doing. But EVERY kid I ever knew growing up.... who got a Mustang GT, or a crotch rocket, or a SS for their 16th birthday... as their first car... totaled it within a couple years... if not the FIRST fricken week they had the damn car (which happened to TWO different people I know!! ) One kid... ended up dead by his Junior year- on the crotch Rocket... and another one my brother's age died as well...

I worked my way into a 70 Cutlass with a Rocket 350 in it... and its a good thing that the car was disquised as a boat... b/c the shit I pulled off in it... I shouldn't be here either...

It's going to be dam tough rationalizing giving my kid something fast for his first car...

[Rant Over]

Totally know what you mean.

My first car was my parents cars.

1. 1986 Jeep Cherokee with over 200,000 miles. The AC didn't work. To start it up you had to slap the door.

2. 1991 Volkswagen Jetta Wolfsburg Edition (still my parents car). The car was a little bit better. I didn't have to slam the door to get it started but it had no AC or heat. Which sucked because I got sick one time during the winter from it.

3. 2004 Acura RSX Type S. This is officially my car. Got under my own name and credit.

If I didn't drive around those first two crap cars, I wouldn't appreciate my car as much.

Hopefully after I pay off the Type S, I'll be able to get a S2000.

Funny how a story like this teenager showing off behind the wheel, then getting excited about a squirrel and consequently making the wrong move, can make you so critical of young drivers in a powerful automobile.
Especially when last week your girlfriend, got all excited about racing a Mustang in your S4 and consequently ran a red light. No wait....I forgot. You ended up figuring out that was the fault of the redneck in the pickup trucks who followed her through and then nearly hit you.....
I got to admit I'm having a tough time following the logic here.

When I was 16, I didn't even have a car. My father used to say: "Get your ass to the school bus or I'll kick it there for you." Got my first car when I was 17--a pimping old Corolla. It was straight-up pimping, yo! The radio didn't even work well. After that, I moved up to a pretty damn comfortable Camry, which I loved, because it was comfy and reliable.

Benny...

where is the logic tripping you up? please explain? Maybe I was a little short with my explination of his families history...

Let me begin with how his older brother was so sheltered and dependant on his family to hold his hand through life... that he answered nearly every argument with his tradeline "well... my father says..."

...his brother did not fall to far from the spoiled tree... my point being that a 16 year old... and this is unsaid based on my description above... is essentially garunteed to pull stunts that he is not competant with... to do bs in a car that he has no experience with... and in the midst of showing off... doing WELL over the speed limit on a curvy road... he thought that the car would handle just GREAT if he swurved around a squirrel mid curve...

unfortunately his ignorance fell in the knowledge of understeer at highspeeds... and knowing that a squirrel will do much less damage to a radiator then a tree...

but again... I'm still not seeing your correlation with my Girlfriend's story...

A story about how my better half unexpectadly ran with a mach1- who's been driving for years... just not a stick... so her comprehension of vehicle dynamics is not lacking... and how she happens to AVOID an accident by checking her rear view and seeing a drunk truck driver bearing down on her... and how she still has the instinct to check the intersection and floor it to avoid another car...

yup... definately missing your point here

come back again when you have something better!
