Default S2k vs(?) 993 Porsche Carrera S

Making a left off Fair Lakes parkway onto Fairfax County Parkway going Northbound, there's an older red Porsche Carrera S coupe in front of me. The light turns green and he makes the turn and then bows out into the right hand lane... Not sure if he's gunning it or not, but there was black smoke coming out the back of his exhaust, so I gun it in 2nd and by the time I hit 3rd I'm already past him ...

I'm guessing he wasn't racing, and I'm not really sure what model year it was, but it looked like a 993.

The Carrera exited onto another road shortly afterwards, and then I ended up behind a Toyota Avalon ... No big deal until I noticed the "Type S" badging in the middle of the car! Hahahahaha.. too funny.

The guy in the Avalon was a prick though ... he was going pretty slow in the left lane so when traffic opened up I moved over into the right lane. But before I could move over safely, the Avalon sped up to cut me off so I ended up behind him again. People like that annoy me ...

The Carrara wasn't racing but black smoke cannot be good. I have seen alot of white smoke from a 993 on startup (aircooled sideeffect of going pure rich) but blacksmoke on stock exhaust makes me think he has issues. If it was moddified exhaust then that would make sense but not on stock exhaust.

How does the type of exhaust determine whether or not black smoke is OK?

How would you know? The 993 wasn't that quick, except for the turbo version. I've noticed that you're a troll on here who's in love with Volvo.

Only way I could imagine the Carrera S was racing me is if it was the 4 speed tiptronic version.

I wasn't really listening too much to his shifts though, was concentrating on driving and listening to my own

The 993 Carrera S Tiptronic is about a mid-5 second 0-60 and about a 14.0 in the 1/4 mile ... but that would put it more or less evenly matched with my car and I passed him pretty easily. So I doubt he was racing ... Unless the black smoke was an indicator of serious problems with his car and he was running about the same as a Civic

I don't think he had an aftermarket exhaust either ... At least I didn't hear anything when he took off.

Ah well, was fun

The 993 (non-turbo) is not slow but not lightning fast either. It's generally in the high 13's and low 14's.

Since you claim to own a 993 C2, why don't you learn to spell the name correctly for a change? CARRERA.

I guess this thread is useless without pics...

Picture with Volvo.

Picture with my 944S2

Picture with Roomates stock SRT-4 (now 300whp)

Also, Most 993 Carrera 2's run 13.2-13.5@103-104mph. I had timeslip of my slower 95 cabriolet 993 running a 13.5@104 (1.91 60ft) but I cannot find it.

BTW.. Insulting my typo must make you > me
