Last night at about 12:30 at night my soon to be wife and I were crusing a popular blvd in our area, when a friend of mine in his new si says to race that car. I look over and its a Wrx with some body kit and an exhaust. I'm thinking this guy has to have some work done. I have about 1100 miles on my S2k and have not really given it a go yet. I wanted to see what my baby can do. I wasnt really going to race him but just go beside him and see how he takes off to get a measure on him. I get next to him and he says" Want to go to the service road?" He sounded way too comfortable, but if I wanted to race him, at least it was going to be away from people. This service road was really empty and quiet. So I see him get in the left lane rather quickly, I guess giving a little taste of what his car can do. I was impressed. So I pull up next to him (top up, a/c off, but had an extra person in the car) and matched his speed in 1st). He says are you ready, I nodded. We punch it at the same time. He pulled half a car, I guess he started boosting a little before Vtec had kicked in. So rev out second, still half a car, reve out third still half a car, go into 4th...inched a tiny bit and gaining...but not enough to say I would have over taken him. I'm not sure. So I slow down b/c the reace was prettty much over. I high beam him and he pulls over. I said nice run!! He said what do u have done??? I looked and said "bone stock". He said "really?" I then asked him and he said "intake exhaust,bov, and chip". I said no wonder you move. He asked me if I had gone to the track and said no and not planning to since my car is meant for the twisties. He then told me he ran 13.8 consistently at the track. Then we both went out seperate ways.
I realized those modded Wrx's are so fast and I'm sure he gave the S2k alot of credit for hanging with him all the way.
I think that if I was alone....I would have been nose to nose with him. Am I right?? Should I have won?? Is my s2k running strong??? Please any feedback..Thanks guys. Be safe.

 

My thoughts are that with a passenger in your stock car that is fairly new and against a chipped WRX without passenger that has run sub 14s, you did fine.

 

Nice run those cars can easily make more power with some minor bolt ons. Although I must say the last time I was at the track I saw 2 WRXs run in the high 14's low 15's. A good driver goes a long way I guess.

 

Yea, if you didn't have a passenger and with good shifts, you would've pulled on him a bit in the higher speeds.

What speed did you run him at?

 

we started at 10 all thw way up to the beginning of 4th....I'm not really sure at the mph..My eyes were on the road. Can i tell from this if my s2000 motor isnt one of the weaker ones with the low whp??

 

You would have been surprised had the race kept going. You would have pulled on him in fourth as the WRX has a notoriously tall (weak) fourth.
