Driving on our local freeway at 70mph trying to get to Wal-Mart, I found that I was closing in on a nice white WRX with some mods obviously with a nice carbon wing...

He rev'd on me and although I knew this was something I wouldn't win, I dropped to 3rd and matched speed with him. We both took off at around 55mph and he just walked me silly. I backed off the throttle at 90mph and he was 2 car lengths in front already.

I flashed my HID's at him to let him know that was awesome but he didn't slow down to let me congrat him on his easy win so I gave him a thumbs up and went onto my exit towards the super-mart.

I'm stock, (I don't think my Spoon duct and JR filter counts as "mods") and he pulled that hard very quickly... I wonder what kind of power the WRX was packing.

Since we live on an island, I'm certain that I'll bump into him sooner or later. It's funny how I tend to lose to 4 bangers only when they pack boost, but I've yet to run into anything but a Honda that can keep up using all-motor.

 

A bigger turbo, modified freeflow exhaust and intake breather probably and a very good driver.

 

Most likely bigger turbo, fuel pump, bigger injectors, engine management system, EBC/MBC, TMIC/FMIC and turboback exhaust system...

Wow, sounds like the WRX was modded quite well then. I'm ignorant of what the typical WRX mods are and what they do for them (i figure some kind of CAI, downpipe, boost controller, chip/ecu and exhaust system would be logical).

I got to run with a stock-appearing WRX before with my slightly modded IS300 and I walked it to 110mph in an automatic car. I ran into a similar situation at freeway speeds and it wasn't hard to beat it which I thought was shocking at the time.

Then I got my S2000 and raced it against my IS300 and the Lexus got spanked at the same speeds.

Now for this WRX to do what it did... the guy must've had some really sweet mods. I hope run into him so I take sneak a peek at his scooby.

True that. I actually had the initial surge ahead (for about 1 full second) before the VTEC kicked in 3rd but he still walked my silly ass. Judging by what I could see from the nice work done to the Subaru, I knew that he had to be packing something evil because I can beat my friend's stock WRX at those speeds.

Talking to some other guys, it appears that it must've been modded very well for it to kick my butt that fast before reaching 90mph. A co-worker of mine theorized that it may've been spraying also, on top of the mods that he had. All in all, he beat a stock S2000 and I chanced it. Can't win 'em all.

I'm bound to run into that car again (it's too damn small here) so I'll find out eventually.

 

Sounds like you met Richard from the WRX boards. He is running a stage 4 setup (full turboback exhaust, bigger turbo/IC, engine mgmt) good for high 12 second passes. Outcome sounds about right.

I recently lined up with a WRX at a red light, I'm also not sure exactly what the kid had, but I know for sure he had some kind of exhaust upgrade, because he was revving at me very annoyingly, and kept on looking over at me for a stop light race. So I did..

When the light turned green, without launching my car (4 tire chirp from him), he immediately jumped a full car on me, and I punched it as soon as I started rolling. I caught up, and pulled 3-4 cars on him before the next light.

BTW, my S is boosted.

The look on his face was priceless.... wish I had my digital camara with me.
