Engine 6,208-cc AMG-built DOHC 32-valve V-8. High-pressure die-cast alloy cylinder block with twin-wire arc spray coated running surfaces.

Net power 507 hp @ 6,800 rpm

Net torque 465 lb-ft @ 5,200 rpm

Acceleration 0 - 60 mph in 4.3 seconds [M-B has historically been very conservative in this regard]

Coefficient of drag 0.29 cd

All out and stock to stock, up to 60 MPH the E63 would have well over a full second lead (even with the best conceivable S2K launch), which, with the areodynamics [M-B 0.29 cd], should open up even more thereafter.
wut does a full second translate to in terms of distance? after we turned i might have been ahead of him and may have got a jump, it all happened quick, i just remember mashing and shifting everytime i saw the redline come up.

he did pretty much just casually switch in front of me, even tho i was flooring it.

Good death.

I heard those things had a hand built engine. Big displacement, overhead cams, man that thing sounds badass.

Love to hear it with long tube headers, no cats, Borla. Prolly make full exhaust cobra sound like a food blender.

Subject to correction by those who know better, I've always understood that 2/10 second or so equals about a car-length in a 0-60 (60 MPH is 88 ft per second), so a full second would be 5 car lengths on that measure (at higher speeds, the car length factor would, of course, be greater).

Note that would assume that the S2K did a 5.3 0-60, which not only requires a perfect all-out sidestep launch [not the easiest thing to do], but is also a better time than any NA S2K seems to have recorded (except perhaps The Invincible S2oooNvegas), including car mag guys who don't worry about flogging the clutch [ see, e.g., http://www.albeedigital.com/supercoupe/art...0-60times.html: 2006 Honda S2000 5.5 14.0 (C&D May '06)].

The E63 (like all AMG cars) is automatic and you just have to push the pedal -- tho the M-B traction control can be heavy-handed, so the best AMG performance comes from a roll when the car is already hooked up.

Summary: he was probably just driving at the brisk end of normal [for a E63] and, as you say, casually went in front of the little Honda to make his entrance on the freeway (with the windows up and the stereo on, he may not have noticed you were redlining).

BTW, all AMG engines are hand-built by one engineer (tho there has to be some dilution of expertise as after its full acquisition of AMG, M-B greatly expanded AMG production to have an AMG model in every line, including the G off-road and R mini-van -- see http://www.mbusa.com/models/body-style-ove...ighPerformance)

$85k for the E-class AMG is not bad. Way beyond my price range, but overall not a bad price.

Those things are quick as hell though. I saw it take a C6 buy half a car nearby. I was behind both cars, and didn't launch (they did). I tried to play catch up after I saw them take off, and well...I didn't catch up. Hahahaha. They slowed down for the next light, and I was like... for not launching (not that it woulda made me win, but I couldve made it at least a little more respectable).
