Three unexpected runs
Was running errands Sat morning, enjoying the early morning weather along the coast and trying out my new Valentine (well, new to me anyway).
Around 730 AM, a new Civic Si pulled up next to me and gave a little rev. Car looked very clean, black rims (18s I'm guessing) with a polished lip. Couldn't hear any other mods. I gave the guy the thumbs up and he pointed ahead with another rev, light went greeen... so off we went. I did a PG13 rated launch, got a decent amount of wheelspin and went to the top of 3rd at which point the race was very much over. I pulled over to check out his car and it was basically stock except for the rims. He gave the ol' "man, your car is fast" after I told him about the SC. I didn't want to hurt his feelings by telling him no, it's not that fast, the implication being that the Si is even less so. Nice looking car tho.
About 15 minutes later, an RX8 pulled up with what appeared to be some punk high school kid trying to grow a mustache (you know when they just have the peach fuzz but are growing it out to look hard), blasting some crappy tunes to the point where I'm sure his amp was clipping and with every conceivable ricer body kit part you can imagine (sidenote: I realize that some of these parts are actually factory or dealer installed, doesn't change my opinion one bit). Nice set of stickers in front of the door of course.
I tried to resists the temptation and hoped that maybe he would leave me alone after I rolled up the windows but finally I had to see what was what. Rolling start from about 20mph (me in 1st)... it was over by the end of second. Not sure what happened to him, may have missed the 1-2 shift but he was WAAAY back and never pulled up next to me again until the next turnoff.
On the way home: Scion tC. This car had been hit with the rice stick pretty hard, right down to the fake HIDs which were unexplainably on at what was by then a sunny 10 AM. Long story short, those TYC tailights don't seem to add enough power to keep up with a SC'd S being driven around 7/10ths from a stop
Disclaimer: I don't care if the other car has 299whp less than me or 1000whp more, these are street encounters, not sanctioned competition. Run what ya brung ESPECIALLY if you instigate the 'encounter.'
