Vs Mustang
So I'm on the way home after a stressful day at work, and I'm accelerating to go up a hill, and I see a 01-04 body style Stang with an aftermarket exhaust (that sounded pretty sweet) start to zoom towards me. It didn't sound like a V8, so I downshift to 3rd at about 40 MPH and go WOT. As I go to the top of 3rd, I never see the stang pass, and I brake for an approaching red light. I was pretty pumped that he couldn't pass me, so I get in the middle lane.
This guy, in a somewhat douchey manner, pulls forward way past the stop line after I've stopped, so he clearly doesn't want to hear anything from me. OK, I guess we'll let our cars do the talking once the light turns green. My car is 99% stock, since it's my DD, so I release the clutch normally, then open the throttle. The stang on the other hand, has a very good launch and is at least 2 car lengths, probably more, by the time I reach VTEC in 1st. I nail the shift to 2nd and keep going in 2nd, and I'm slowly but surely closing the gap. Up ahead another light approaches, and it's yellow as I shift to third. I slow down for the light, knowing that there's a good 3 miles before the next light and I'll have him for the "tiebreaker." But the Stang goes right through it as it turns red, and I don't see him again.

Nice run
"aftermarket exhaust (that sounded pretty sweet) ... It didn't sound like a V8,"
I think V6's had about 190 hp those years, and the V6 coupes weighed ~3,000 lbs., so the "douche move" of pulling farther into the intersection was simply him recognizing you have the faster car
Seriously, it sounds like he knew he needed a car length or so to stay ahead. Not a douche move when a faster car wants to race you, IMHO. Running red lights isn't cool, but there's that whole thing about racing on public roads
Nice write-up, man
