Default Wierd Encounter

I had a strange encounter yesterday. I was driving with my wife in my s2k with the top down, when I see this black civic EX coupe, with 3 guys in it. I drive next to him and he starts to rev on me. I noticed that the car was automatic and had some sort of loud exhaust. I get behind going around 60 and he decided to run, I followed and almost hit the guy before finishing third. I pass the guy and he then proceeds to get very colse to my rear bumber, I hit third again and leave him away. To make a long story short, I was cruising at 65 and he comes from behind and passes me very fast. I follow suit but this time his car was moving fast. I was able to almost get him but I stopped due to traffic.

The guy then decided to go at about 45 mph, and I get next to him and tell him lest go from 45, he smiles and doesnt do a thing. I drive regularly and look at my mirror and there he comes again, I was prepared this time and the highway was empty so I punched it and left the guy behind probably by 3 - 4 cars. I hit 106 mph and decided to stop, he does a ricer fly-by.

I always thought that the S would smoke a car like that, I was surprised with the power on the civic in top end. I am not the best driver in the world, but so far have had no problems. Any ideas on what he might have in his car? Nitros maybe??

Sorry for the long post.

My S is 100% stock.

i guess he was at a higher speed already, so that will take you a while to catch up.

yeah... that's what I was thinking... if he passes you at about 20-30 mph faster... while still accelerating... you have to both out accelerate his progression... and make up 30mph... all in one stretch...

...and... your wife puts up with this!!?? Luky man!

At first she almost pulled all of the hair out of my head, but then when she saw the smurk on the passangers face, she told me the heck with it!!! smoke that bastard!!!

I understand he was coming faster, but what I found strange is that thru 2nd, 3rd the civic had no power whatsoever, but when we got into the 80 - 90 mph range his car moved.

Thanks for the comments.

maybe it had an engine swap?
anyways dont let the guy get the jump , even if his car is slow its gonna be hard for you to make up the speed he gained in the jump
be careful out there

He turned on his nitrous, caught up with you and played again. Simple, inexpensive mod, yet yields mucho power. That is why they had a smirk because they knew they had hidden nitrous. Against a stock Civic, esp. auto, it doesn't matter if it started going first, you could've canceled its momentum and passed it quickly.

That's what I thought, also when I tried to run from 2nd gear he would just look at me and wait untill we got to 65 - 70 mph slowly and then hit it. Thanks for the replies.

Cheers,
