Wow, does weight really effect our car this much?

Default Wow, does weight really effect our car this much?

Well, it was me and my friend in the S2K. Completely stock in terms of power. We each weigh about 175, so there was 350lbs in pasenger weight, which is pretty damn close to the max capacity of 400.

First race- RX8. Looked stock. I got the jump off the line and he stuck with me. I was a car length ahead of him and pulled very slowly to maby 2 or 2 1/2 lengths before we shut down.

He did a flyby afer we both shut down and right as he was flooring past me I downshifted to second. He held about 2 cars on me and I could never catch back up because of his jump.

The next race- a toyota tacoma. There were 3 guys in it, one weighing 150, other two weighing 180. I could not put any distance on him untill 2nd-3rd gear I bogged it down almost to idle and then had to go all the way through 6000rpms without any torque. He got the pull on me and I couldnt pass him untill the start of 3rd gear. Even so I hardly put many lengths on him. Probably 3 cars at most by 80.

It really surprised me how much of a difference the weight makes...

Shouldn't make that much difference. The cars you mentioned are MUCH slower than the S and you should easily pull them unless they are modified significantly. I've never had any stock truck stay anywhere close to me as well as any stock RX-8.

Well the truck... he launched and pulled on the stop, while I bogged down and had to wait to get into vtec. But yeah, still strange.

F=MA.

Clearly, mass plays a gigantic part.

2835/240 = 11.81
3010/240 = 12.54 (need +15HP to achieve same power/weight)

I got destroyed by a Tacoma when I had an IS300. We got to a light and he told me he had a TRD Supercharger. Mabye the guy you raced had one.

the only time I can think of when weight wouldn't be a prob is racing from the top of a cliff to the bottom...straight down in neutral

So the race was like 0-60? If you could downshift to 2nd after maybe only braking for a second... if you even hit the brakes, it wasn't much of a race in the first place.
