So do you shoot for a specific part of the powerband once the tires are spinning, or do you just try to keep it off the rev limiter?
To tell you the truth, after I drop the clutch I don't even look at the tach anymore. It gauge it by feel and sound. I know I've done it right when the revs climb by about 1000 rpm and then just hovers there till the tires grab and then revs and road speed climb together.
Sometimes, I purposely go for wheel spin just because it's so much fun. Launching doesn't have to be a death knell for the diff. If you know you've taxed it, then don't do it again till it's had time to cool down a bit. It's those repeated attempts that build up heat in the diff that can't be dissipated that will hasten it's demise. If you see to fluid maintenance and give the thing a chance to cool down when you've worked it, it shouldn't suffer greatly. High load will always generate a lot of heat in the diff. Give it time to get rid of some of the heat before loading it up again.
My guess would be that my car is quicker with Wisconsin driving it than with me.
Good thing I have another car that I can drive like a retard and still beat him in my S2000
Else the world would end and my penis would shrink by 3 inches.
Wait .. no .. I didn't buy my S2000 because it was a drag car ... (but I am still impressed with the folks who make it a decent one).

Well I got bored reading all the BS so I figured I'd just reply. With good tires on my car, I get a pretty good launch using the stutter box feature of the EMS set to 5500rpm and basically dumping the clutch. There's a little wheel spin, letting me know the tires broke loose instead of the diff
and then it quickly hooks right up and stays in VTEC the whole time. And it feels balls to floor fast...so I assume its good. Nice thing about the stutter box, my foot just stays on the floor.

Does anyone make a stand-alone studder box?

I'm glad you enjoy your car, and I hope with the S2000, everyone does. I just feel this redneck U.S. society has covered the eyes of many enthusiasts of other ways to have fun and enjoy a car. I know where I live, the local drag strip's attendence is enormously bigger than any Auto X turnout. And I've found maturity of the two different parties to be at a different level as well. I think that is becoming evident in this forum also.
I don't feel there is a right or wrong way to own or use your car, I have my preferences, as you have yours, I'm just putting a different spin on the mentality of how to use it. Many, aren't aware of how much fun Auto X or tracking is, so they never give it a try, and go through the ownership of a car like this missing out. I know first hand, I use to be very big into drag racing, only cared about HP. I found out a lot of stuff from this forum, and am glad there were people here to push me into road racing.
I think the S2000 is a very fun car, comparable to the likes of the Lotus Elise except more usable for the everyday driver. I'm willing to bet in the Elise forums they don't many of these topics. They're car is fast in a straight line, but like the S2000, is a dream in the turns.
