My heart was leaning towards a used 01 S2000, but I just drove a 92 NSX for sale and it was nice too....dammit!!!

The NSX is a nice car. To bad the body style relates back to the late 80s when it was first designed. Dont get me wrong the NSX is a bad a$$, but getting a pre 96 NSX aint worth it. You will get funky rims, 3.0 liter engine, non painted roof, 5spd tranny and some other small things that the pre 96 lacks.

I would definately choose the 01 S2000 over a 92 NSX. If it was a 96 or new NSX, i would motion toward the NSX!
Speed wise a S2000 will beat a 92 NSX

just my nickel minus 3 pennies

i found a 01 s2000 with 5K miles, spa yello, for 27K...is that a good price?
i know the kleyy blue book quoted something higher, but looking at prices on ebay and autotrader prices seem to be falling a little

The NSX is rarer than an S2000, needs a bit more skill to drive at the limit than an S2000.

A '92 NSX, though reliable will be more costly to fix (though not by much in most cases) than a newer S2000 mainly because of it being out of warranty.

THe S2000 is more fun on the street and easier to park (esp since the '92 NSX has no power steering). But the NSX feels more exotic and may be a chance of a lifetime if you find one in good shape at a good price.

That's the understatement of the day...

If you want a occasional-use, take-it-out once in a while car, and don't mind pretty stiff maintenance and repair bills, and want something more unique, get the NSX.

If you want a nice-day daily driver, a full warranty, awesome performance and a convertable top, get the S2000.

The pre-95 NSX's with manual transmission had no power steering - mainly to provide maximum feel through the steering...

understatement...I'm seeing s2000s way below blue book on Ebay and Autotrader
the car i'm interested in is an 01, spa yellow, with only 5k miles and full warranty (including the 7 yr powertrain) and the owner is going down to 26K....a little less than blue book huh?

Sure the NSX is out of warranty that being the only draw back as far as I can see.

A benefit of their age is that failures are all predictable and scant at that. In the first two years ('91-'92) there were a subset of NSX's with a tolerance problem in the transmission that caused the snap ring to be loaded laterally until it disintigrated.
So (1) Make sure the NSX is out of this range (or has over 50,000miles without the failure).
(2) NSX's need a 45-50,000mile timming/cam belt replacment which will run you on the order of $2000 with labour and water pump replacment.
(3)A new clutch at this time in life is also appreciated, another ~$2000.
(4) Then check the brakes on a case by case basis. Ask someone who knows about NSX's and they can check for you if the window "thingy" (joins each end of the cables that operate the window) has been replaced with a peak behind the door panel.

So if the above have been taken care of, then you have no worries and a truly exotic car.

My $10 worth
