Default 02-03 Soft Top Conversion Help

I own a 2001 with the plastic window and my window ripped. I wanted to take the opportunity and put an 02-03 roof on eventhough I am amare I can replace just the plastic. Honda today told me I have to replace the frame underneath the top too which sounds crazy. Do I have to replace anything else besides the skin itself? I dont care about adding the defroster as of yet. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

you can use the old frame, but it needs some slight modification. There is a how-to here on s2ki. You can get the skin from hardtopguy for around $800 I think.

I actually just did the conversion this past weekend and it was not that difficult.....PM me if you have any questions.

My only advice to you would be...When riveting the 'new' elastic straps from the middle bow to the rear bow, make sure the rivets are close to the 8:00 (middle bow) and 4:00 position (rear bow) to make sure there is no 'bulge' on the top of the frame that would be noticeable from the outside.....I actually, instead of doubling over, tripled over the 'new' elastic straps which made them kind of thick....

Also, a good hole puncher is very handy to have for making holes on the straps before riveting.....

And, there are about 8-10 small and larger washers which are used in conjunction with rivets to attach the top to the rain rail in the rear...It may help to have a new set of each size of washers as you will find many of the ones already in place will be unusable after center punching/drilling out the old rivets....
