Default '04 Shift Boot Replacement

I just got one of Rick's leather shift boots in blue to match my interior for my '04. The plastic trim ring around the shift boot on the '04+'s separates from the rest of the center console. I can get it 75% off on the sides and front, but the part that is up against the silver aluminum panel doesn't seem to want to come out. Has anyone ever done this on an '04? I can't see Honda designing this thing to come out on 3 sides and then having to take the whole center console off to replace the shift boot. See below:

I hate to tell you but the whole console has to come off. I had to do it on my 04 a month ago to install a ricks.

Grab the left and right side of the armrest pad by the console and lift up firmly. It will unsnap in the back then do the same for the front. Then disconnect the roof and hazard harnesses and flip it over. Pretty basic from there on out.

It came with instructions, but not for an '04-05. I'll check the site, thanks.
