04 vs 03 Dyno test on vtec.net

God that felt good though......<grin>.

you have a valid point there Luis, how can it be 160 for the 04 and not 150ish for the 03 like advertised at the flywheel, also hp is 243 at the flywheel on the 04 and not even 230 for the 03, something is not right we need more work on dynos to compare.

Geez. Steve, you would think that by now you'd get it through your head that those sorts of variances _don't_ occur when you test properly. That means stable coolant and intake air temps and proper dyno setup. That means tire pressure, strap tension, alignment, etc. all must be taken into account on a roller dyno, or you can use a hub dyno like the Dynapack and eliminate those variables (and wheel weight as well). But then again, I've explained this to you several times and you haven't suggested a better alternative, so I'll assume you just don't understand.
I've got more S2000 dynos under my belt than anyone I'm aware of. Virtually all the stock MY00-01's all make within +/-2% and the same goes for the 02-03 models (which are higher than the 00-01s). In one week I dyno'd 4 different 02's and they were all within 5 hp of each other. That's what using an OBDII scantool to check operating conditions before you test can do for you.
As for the real dyno crack, unless someone pulls the engine and puts it on an engine dyno, you're not going to get any more real than what I've got. I'd like to think that my business has boomed due to my exceptional skills
, but having the only dyno of its kind in town is probably even more important and it has provided a serious advantage to a number of race winners and national champions in various series. And it isn't just my customers that win, top teams around the country are using the Dynapack for testing and tuning.
That said, this is a press car. Which is why the additional offer of a free dyno has been extended to a actual consumer purchased car. We'll see.
For those with questions about the "flywheel hp" label. That's just an idiosyncracy of the Dynapack SW. The package allows us to input a transmission correction factor (TCF on the plots) to allow for tranny losses. But since we don't know what those losses are, I don't put one in. As long as the TCF is 1.0, what you're seeing is the measured hp at the hub.

UL, can you take a shot at answering my questions. I'm eager to learn about this stuff. Thanks

I don't buy it, and I won't until we have more data to back these claims up
Some people just haven't learned that UL is the closest thing we have to an S2K-God (should be his license plate), and that his word is golden. He doesn't just talk the talk guys, he walks the walk.
Thanks for the excellent info UL, as always.

For others: Unless you have a dyno, or fluent in physics, I wouldn't challenge UL. He's been doing this for a while.
Facts: Even if the dyno puts out "higher" numbers, thats ok. What is important is the 2 sets of data that he used, 02 and 04. There is an INCREASE of 26/21 HP/TQ between the 04 and 02 cars. That is a substantial amount of number.
Opinion: Even with a 5HP increase or 6 or 7 or 10, this is a remarkable car. When I talk about remarkable, I am talking about the advancement that Honda put out on such a small engine. (4 cyclinder) Lets see an any other makers pull that one off.
120HP/L is great. Even ferrari's can't do that.
