turn the ignition switch on press lock
turn switch off
turn the ignition switch on press lock
turn switch off
turn the ignition switch on press lock

keep doing this till you hear the door locks locking then press each remote lock button that you want to program.

this all has to be done within 10 seconds and all of your doors need to be closed when being performed.

It's because the directions are wrong.

Your doors don't need to be closed. your doors can be whatever.

Get in the car.

Put the key in the ignition, and turn it to the ON position,
press UNLOCK on the remote,
turn the key to the OFF position
turn the key back to the ON position
press UNLOCK on the remote,
turn the key to the OFF position
for the final time
turn the key to the ON position,
press UNLOCK on the remote,
You should hear the door lock acutuator cycle, once you hear this sound press the LOCK button on the remote, you should again hear the acutator cycle.
Turn the key to the off position. Test all the buttons on your remote.

And you clearly have the wrong key. The proper S2000 key/remote setup is a key and a 4 buttoned FOB.
