It all depends what car your used to, the S is not a fast car by any means, but when the first time I drove it coming right out of my stock miata, it felt like a damn rocketship... If you daily drive a Z06 then the s2k will definately feel like a pig. But its weird an almost new 2007 at a dealership would already have a check engine light.
first time i drove an S i wasn't impressed with the speed, because i was driving around the block and i didn't want to hammer it on into the vtec range. the one time i did i was happy with the pull, but it wasn't the kind of acceleration that made me want to jump out and buy the car.
what killed me was the second test drive, when i took it through some serious S-curves at around 60
that just put a big grin on my face for hours after.
as for the OP, to reiterate what others have said... why was he letting you test drive it with the CEL on?? get a different one and test it out. and find some curvy roads.

I think the answer is obvious, of course it was slow, he drove an AP2.

I think if he test drove an AP1, it would've forever shifted him away from S2000.

, it's nice to see humor has not been totally lost here at s2ki, 'cause if I see another AP1 VS AP2 thread I think I'm going to implode...

Monkeyboys who don't know how to extract the performance form the S2000 think it's slow. They're wrong. It is their lack of skill that makes their car slow.

Absolutely, there's no way someone can step out of a V8 pick truck or some other easy-to-drive-fast vehical and have a fast test drive in the S2000. There's a learning curve.

He said he has never seen someone push a car to its limits that much in a test drive. I told him, well its a sports car, I have to test the handling, braking, acceleration and general feed back I get, right?
