Default 1.3 spoon/mugen radiator caps?

So I have an idea on what they do but can someone explain it to me a lil more clearly? They are a cooling mod but is it pointless if I just bought the cap and nothing else? Would it affect anything in my s2k in a badway with just the cap installed?

thanks!

thanks for the info.
I guess a radiator cap won't do anything since I use normal anti freeze
