I don't know why a lot of people think this engine won't last if properly taken care of. The designers and engineers at Honda are not idiots and I don't think they would have made the S2000 if they didn't feel it could live as long as a Civic or Accord. Just my two cents though.
Why?

Powered by the most powerful naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine in production.

Brand new engine - designed from a clean sheet of paper.

All-new compact design.

The only production car engine sold that rev'd to 9000 rpms. Normally this is race motor territory.

Virtually every engine component was designed new.

In June 2001 Honda stated there are no plans for the F20c engine to be installed in any other car; thus limited production and limited feedback.

Need I go on...........................

62,500 miles and I beat the crap out of it everyday. So far so good except for a leaking weatherstrip.

4 yrs and 5 months w/ 84,200 on my 01 S. No problems so far (knocking on wood). That's w/ many autocrosses and around 300 track miles.

115k here, and still as strong as ever.

I VTEC it every day, and make darn sure to maintain it well.

I'm waiting for the first person over 200k!!!!

Mine still runs great but changing out a lot of the old stuff for new stuff. But the main thing I won't change is my motor for anything aftermarket. I run my car pretty hard and it still runs great. But I do have an itch for more power.
